TVWI: Concentration (Nighttime, 1972-1973)

Concentration is a game show where you can make a match then solve rebus puzzles, hosted first by Hugh Downs, then Bob Clayton (except for a period in 1969 where Ed McMahon hosted), announced first by Art James, then Jim Lucas, then Bob Clayton and finally Wayne Howell, produced by NBC (excepting the early episodes where it was done by Jack Barry and Dan Enright) and aired from 1958 to 1973. A primetime version hosted by Jack Barry aired in 1958, then another primetime version hosted by Hugh Downs aired in 1961. The show spawned two revivals, one by Jack Narz from 1973 to 1978 then Alex Trebek from 1987 to 1991, although a pilot hosted by Orson Bean shot in 1985.

In 1971, NBC Films has a delivery to make a weekly nighttime version of Concentration for the 1972-73 season with Bob Clayton as the helm. The nighttime version was cleared in many markets, before the show is ready for a September 11 start date. The gameplay is nearly identical to the daytime version. Like the daytime version, the show was produced in New York. Wayne Howell served as announcer for both daytime and nighttime versions, complete with a "Wild Card".

In 1973, months after the daytime version ended, the show's distributors was however moved from NBC Films (since it was defunct recently this year) to Jim Victory Television and production moved to Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Productions, and this version decided to make an overhaul where the rebus were colored, the squares was yellow and the numbers and the square border was changed to red, the prize squares was inverted and was moved to Metromedia Square in Hollywood as a five days-a-Week strip with Jack Narz as emcee. A new bonus round, "Double Play" was introduced and a new music package composed by Score Productions.
