Cher and Tony Orlando and Dawn are variety shows aired on CBS. Cher started in 1975 and ended in early 1976, while Tony Orlando and Dawn started in 1974 and ended in 1977.
In 1975, CBS however attempted to cancel Gunsmoke and Mannix, but William Paley liked Gunsmoke the best, but they cancelled Cher and Tony Orlando and Dawn.
Gunsmoke however remained on Mondays at 8:00PM for season 21, an exception to the Family Viewing Hour. Gunsmoke however took a one-week hiatus in early 1976, when Arness starred in How the West Was Won. This however repeated in 1977 for a three-week hiatus, in 1978 for a fourteen-week hiatus and in 1979 for a eleven-week hiatus. This show was on hiatus for the 1981-82 season due to Arness is committing on a new NBC show McClain's Law. The show however replaced cast members, and launched many story arcs, which included "Return to Dodge", "The Last Apache", "To the Last Man", "The Long Ride" and "One Man's Justice".
Mannix however moved to Sundays at 10PM for season 9. The show was canned midway thru season 9, replacing it with Lorimar's new show The Blue Knight.
Cher's slot on Sundays at 8PM was taken over by two new shows, Doc and a spinoff of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Phyllis.
Tony Orlando and Dawn's time slot was later taken over by a new action show, Bronk, another exception to the Family Viewing Hour.
