Make Room for Daddy is an American sitcom which ran from 1953 to 1957 on ABC and from 1957 to 1964 on CBS. (A revival series known as Make Room for Granddaddy aired on ABC from 1970 to 1971.) Episodes regularly featured music as part of the plot by Danny Thomas, guest stars, and occasionally by other cast members.
In March 1953, Danny Thomas first signed the contract for the show with ABC and chose Desilu Studios to film it using its three-camera method. Two proposed titles during preproduction were The Children's Hour and Here Comes Daddy. Reruns of the ABC episodes were aired Monday through Friday, on NBC from October 4, 1960, to March 26, 1965.
In early 1965, CBS executives were picking up reruns of Make Room for Daddy after its cancellation by NBC. CBS executives considered to replace The Real McCoys, but CBS prefer to use the show as a replacement for I Love Lucy reruns instead as part of a scheduling shuffle with The Real McCoys.
CBS' reruns of Daddy were due to start on March 29, 1965 and its set to end on August 16, 1965, before moving to syndication. Afterwards, reruns of Make Room for Daddy were replaced by reruns of the ABC episodes of My Three Sons, the same day The Dick Van Dyke Daytime Show replaced The Jack Benny Daytime Show on CBS, meaning that My Three Sons' reruns on CBS has two runs (one for the ABC episodes from 1965-66 and one for the CBS color episodes from 1971-72).
