TVWI: Boggle got picked up

Boggle is an unsold pilot hosted by Bill Rafferty, announced by Charlie O'Donnell, produced by Martindale/Gilden Productions and it was taped in 1988.

In 1988, Columbia Pictures Television Distribution was in negotations to sign a deal with Martindale/Gilden to distribute Boggle for a fall 1988 start. In mid-1988, Viacom bought out distribution rights to Boggle, in exchange for off-net rights to The Rookies and All in the Family. Viacom lend Boggle to sold to many stations, which included the FOX O&O's as well as WLVI, KTVU and TVX Broadcast Group.

Viacom let Boogle for a start date of September 12, 1988.

Lemme get this straight. It was based on this?

Holy cow. I got that for my birthday in the late 70s some time, played it a few times, and that was the end of it. I didn't know it survived that era, let alone with enough momentum to be made into a TV show ten years later.

I have no idea what would ensue from that being put on TV in 1988. A more literate public rejects the false causality of the Willie Horton ads? Seriously, though, I always figured that game was just a cheap rip-off of Scrabble, flown under the legal radar by having blocks instead of tiles.

Wow, I honestly had no idea.

Body Boggle

TAG LINE: "It's friendly, funny, and physical."

Glad to see you were takin' the high road, Parker. No wink-wink innuendo there.

However on September 12, 1988 Boggle did picked up on KTVU in the Daytime Block and aired it before Divorce Court with Jim Peck, However despite Boggle is a hit on Syndication in Daytime, Viacom renewed it for the 1989-1990 season and expanded the Daytime Game Show Block for KTVU Channel 2 in San Francisco here's the schedule from September 1989 after Boggle started Season 2 starting at 9AM and ending at 3PM ITTL.
