Turning Out The Lights

"Admitedly, I'd describe our campaign against Labour in 92 as medioca."

"In what way was it medioca?"

"Well I felt the conservative record set by the Thatcher government (and continued under me) had bought about a great deal of success, but I guess I was not riggerus enough in defending our policies."

"So you think a victory at the poles could have been achieved?"

"Oh yes. We spent the entirety of 1991 making up ground against the labour party and I was creddited by many for doing a better job than had been expected of me, when I had assumed the premiership."

"So do you think Labour ran a better campaign?"

"I think Niel Kinnock's reforms had been successful in detoxifying the tarnished labour brand and their was a genuine alternative in 1992, something that wasn't true of the labour party in the previous 2 elections."

Interview with Former British Prime Minister John Major, 2002

"We were fairly confident of victory in the 1992 election, though the trick was to appear as a government in waiting, without allowing overconfidence on our part."

"What do you mean?"

"For all his faults, John Major had done a lot to revitalise the conservatives since he took power-the poles certainly suggested that he was personally fairly popular amongst the public. Labour were favoured to win still though and it was therefore vital we didn't hold any American style ralleys and act like the election was in the bag for us-because it wasn't."

Taken from an interview with Gordon Brown, 2004

I'm assuming Labour wins 1992 with a small majority, gains some of the blame for Black Wednesday along with Major while Rifkind takes over the Conservatives (the right won't allow Heseltine while Rifkind will be more tolerable for the 'wets') and we see what happens when the pattern of losing the right elections continue for the Tories.

Or I could be completely wrong

The TL premise looks good so far but it could do with some way for the reader to differentiate between the interviews as I thought it was one interview for a second.
