Military history is rife (even more modern military history including present day) of cities being besieged for many months before the besieged forces capitulate. In your opinion, was it feasible to turn places like Minsk, Kiev, Smolensk, or other Soviet cities (or French ones like Paris for that matter) into drawn out sieges akin to Leningrad for example, given enough preparations for siege? Would this have been a far more effective use of resources instead of being put to things like the Stalin/Molotov Line or Maginot Line (instead turning cities into well prepared fortified hedgehogs) as a counter to blitzkrieg? It worked against the Germans in Bastogne. The French soldiers in the Maginot Line didn't have to surrender and could have held out for a long time likewise presumably.
