It is generaly accepted that the massive bloast in Tunguska in 1908 was caused by a meteor rite coming to ground. What would of happened if this event had occured 50 or 60 years later. Or worst case scenario at the peak of the Cuban missle crisis????? Or even worst case scenario instead of falling in an uninhabitated area the meteor takes out Moscow or another Russian city???

Russia thinks they're under attack and launch nukes at the US, or do they try and work out what had hit them first????

Not according to Stargate SG-1: Roswell - it was a Goa'uld ship that collided with the Atlantis time-travelling puddle jumper.

They'd lose one city at worst, and they would immediately notice that what hit them wasn't nuclear. That would alone let them know it wasn't a pre-emptive strike. And besides, it would be quite likely that PVO would see a ICBM coming, and they wouldn't see one here.

Also, while they might be quick to launch a missile if it hit Vladavostok or Minsk, they would probably wait to see just what it was that blew up over a Siberian Forest before launching anything.

Thanks to satellites and radio observatories, the USSR would have a better chance of preparing for the upcoming disaster - they could even target it with a nuclear missile with sufficient warning.

Sod's law dictates that the asteroid is deflected rather than destroyed and lands on the USA...
