So, ladies and gentlemen, as you might know, in 1967 Tshombe's jet aircraft was hijacked by his own bodyguard Francis Bodenan. I've seen some people claiming that Bodenan was recruited by the CIA, but that is of little regard here. Tshombe was behind the bars in Algiers, dying there. Some claim that might not be exactly truth, but that's a story for another day. Now, what if he wasn't? What if the CIA failed to recruit Bodenan or the Frenchman just would have been more loyal to Tshombe?
I guess that it's no secret that Schramme's conspiracy was planned with Tshombe's installed as Congo's ruler or Katanga's secession in mind. Some Belgian and/or French business and governmental circles might be interested in his success. Suppose, with Tshombe free Schramme manages to rally more mercenaries and Katangan gendarmes and general local support?
Now, what I ask is - is that possible? With Tshombe alive and back in Congo as a political rally point, would Schramme be able to succeed and overthrow Mobutu? If so, how would the other countries react to Tshombe's ascendancy?
