Trying to Please Everyone: Or Converting multiple Pop Culture Utopias into a Timeline.

Jill’s clothes stay pretty consistent along with those of the other characters.
In fact, here's the thing - if you look closely at all the games in the series, Jill Valentine always appears in uniform during missions. In fact, the third part (both Nemesis and the Remake) are the only ones where Jill wears civilian clothes, and this is the only game where she is not a participant in a military or police operation (yes, that’s why her image in Death Island is very strange).

WACHOWSKI HELMED GHOST IN THE SHELL ADAPTATION DELAYED
The Wachowskis have made a name for themselves, initially as comic writers before making the jump to film, have hit a snag in their latest production. Their first film script in 1994 evolved into the Roger Corman Horror film Carnivore(1995) for Canon Films, a low budget production about Cannibals . This impressed Warner Bros into giving them a three picture deal. Their most recent film was last year’s Plastic Man(1996), starring Jim Carrey in the titular role. Originally helmed to direct an adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, that project has been delayed in favor of an original project dubbed the Matrix, set to star Will Smith and Sean Connery. The two are also writing for the upcoming film Dark City by Alex Proyas[1].

UNKNOWN DIRECTOR HELMING PERFECT BLUE ADAPTATION
Author Yoshikazu Takeuchi has decided on the perfect format for an adaptation of his own novel Perfect Blue after debating between a live action film, a DVA, or an animated feature, ultimately settling on a Live Action Film. Faced with a problem of low budget, the film’s story has been reworked to focus on an idol in Japan. Unable to afford major talent, Takeuchi has found a visiting American Director and Anime fan to helm the project, Darren Aronofsky…[2]

Metal Gear(1997)
Hideo Kojima released Solid Snake in 1990. The game was a huge success and was seen as revolutionary as it had the player rely on stealth rather than direct confrontation. John Carpenter had become a fan of Hideo Kojima’s previous game Junker(1988)[3] and its Blade Runner style story and asked to collaborate. While this was the first time Kojima collaborated with a western director, it would not be the last given later works such as Silent Hills with Guillermo Del Toro and The Boys: Kill the Se7en[4]. The Video Game and film adaptation of Metal Gear were made together to complement each other, though many see the Video Game as superior, due to containing diverging paths based on player choices obviously not present in the film version. The plot of both versions will be described here.

In the backstory of the series. A genetically enhanced special forces unit called FOXHOUND, led by the mysterious “Big Boss” attacked and occupied New York City after hijacking a weapon called Metal Gear, a giant Mech capable of launching nuclear weapons. Walls were built around the city.

In 2005, The President of the United States is kidnapped when Air Force One is hijacked and crashes into New York and thus Big Boss territory. “Solid” Snake Plisken is a former member of Big Boss’s team who went rogue(retconned as the plot of Kojima's game Solid Snake). Solid Snake was then captured and imprisoned for years(shown in flashback). The Government makes him a deal to rescue the President and inject him with a disease that will kill him in 24 hours unless he returns with the President to get the antidote. The President is needed to make an important public speech towards China. Snake is allied with Colonel Roy Campbell. Snake lands on the World Trade Center and makes his way down, briefly meeting the mysterious Liquid. He uses a tracker placed on the President only to find it attached to a hostage, who dies of a heart attack when he tries to give the code that could shut off the Metal Gear. Snake is able to rescue Colonel Campbell’s niece Meryl Silverburgh but is attacked by FOXHOUND Gunslinger Revolver Ocelot, who loses an arm to a mysterious cyborg that turns invisible, an attack that saves Snake's team. Snake is aided in fleeing by a mysterious figure calling themselves “Octacon” who is revealed to be the one who built the Metal Gear but is afraid of it being misused.

During another battle, Snake reunited with the invisible Ninja, who he recognizes as his old ally Gray Fox, who was thought dead. He wants to help Snake fake his death and escape, which Campbell is also helping them with. When Meryl is captured, Snake gives chase and is attacked by Psycho Mantis(Who in a trippy sequence, even messes with the film itself, breaking the fourth wall and talking to the audience). While Snake kills Mantis, he and Meryl are captured with Snake being tortured until Otacon helps him escape. They move to save Meryl but she is shot by FOXHOUND assassin Sniper Wolf, who is killed by Snake, to Otacon’s Sadness as he found her attractive. Snake confronts Big Boss, who has strapped the President to Metal Gear. Liquid Snake appears and reveals that Snake was poisoned in a way to kill all FOXHOUND members and that Snake and Liquid are the sons of Big Boss. Liquid Snake is nearly killed by the invisible ninja, Gray Fox, who saves Solid Snake at the cost of his own life when the Metal Gear collapses, crushing him and Big Boss. Snake and his allies rescue the President and make a run for it, pursued by Liquid, who dies in a Jeep crash just as they reach the outskirts of the city. Colonel Campbell administers the Antidote to Snake and then helps him and Otacon escape, but warns Snake the poison likely shortened his lifespan. As the President plays what is intended to be a prerecorded tape of his speech to China, it instead plays a mix tape prepared by Snake as he switched out the tapes. Snake departs[5].

The Film and the Game were both hits, the Game in particular being influential in its genre. Talk of a sequel to the film were unlikely as Kurt Russell disliked revisiting an old character unless John Carpenter was involved but the idea wasn’t immediately dismissed[6]. Kojima set to work on Metal Gear 2. Early rumors circulated that the sequel had a different protagonist and would kill off Snake because of Kurt Russel's hesitancy to return, which Kojima denied was the case well until release.

King of the Jungle(1997)

A joint collaboration between Disney and Tezuka Productions made in tribute to Tezuka. When Disney passed away it became a tribute to both. The music of the Film was done by the band ABBA.

The Film begins with Leo(James Earle Jones) celebrating the birth of his son Simba, who is revealed in a massive celebration in which the baboon Kwashi holds him up before the animals as they cheer. The scene then shifts to the Lion, Claw(Tim Curry), a darker Lion with a Scar over one of his eyes which Leo gave him. He speaks to his black panther companion named Cassius who is just a formidable but loyal. As they plot against Leo, the King of the Jungle shows his Kingdom to his son and explains the Circle of Life to him. Leo explains that sometimes humans come to the area and there is peace between them so long as there as poaching the White Lion is forbidden among the laws of man because they are the last of their kind. Simba is curious to learn about humanity but Leo forbids him from going alone. Simba stumbles onto the blackened brittle bones of several animals and is a little scared. Leo explains that a plague struck the land before his birth and that he is forbidden from going to “The Graveyard” where the animals burned and placed the remains of those who succumbed to the plague.

Simba, wanting to explore the graveyard, sneaks off to a nearby tribe belonging to the elderly lion Marody, who is growing senile. Marody allows his granddaughter Nadra to go with Simba provided the parrot Zazu(Nathan Lane) goes with them. The two Cubs ditch Zazu and enter the graveyard where they are attacked by Hyenas(played by Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong and Whoopie Goldberg, who insisted in being in the film). Leo shows up and saves them but is furious. That night he talks to his son while looking up at the night sky and tells him about the stars. He then sends Simba home. Elsewhere, Claw approaches the Hyenas and boasts that Leo will soon die. He will kill Simba and become King. This leads into the musical number “Thanks to Me”.

The next day, Claw tricks Simba into coming out to an open area in which a stampede passes through. Leo arrives to try and save him. He is wounded and tries to climb away. Claw appears before him and grasps his paws, telling him “Long Live the King” before throwing him off to his death, to Simba’s Horror. Simba finds his father’s body and begs him to wake up. Claw arrived and begins to blame Simba until he flees. Claw then sends the Hyenas to kill him but they are intercepted by the poachers, who catch Simba and haul him away.

Simba finds himself in a wildlife sanctuary where he meets a mongoose named Mabu and a Boar named Harold(Rick Mayall and Adrian Edmonson), who teach Simba their care free philosophy of “Akuna Matata” Simba grows into adulthood at the sanctuary(now voiced by Matthew Broderick) and his feeling of tranquility is shattered when Nadra arrives at the Sanctuary. She reveals that a plague swept across the land and many believed Simba to have died. The devastation allowed Claw and Hyenas to take over. Simba runs off, reluctant to takeover when the Baboon Kwashi speaks to him and guide him to the ghostly apparition of his father that appears in the clouds and urges Simba to remember who he is. Simba makes the choice to return to the Pridelands. There he battles Claw and defeats him, leading his own Hyenas to turn against him. The Film skips aheads to the aftermath where Kwashi reveals the child of Simba and Nadra[7].

Saki Sanobashi(1997)

Translated as “Go for a Punch”. The series was the first motion picture work by Satoshi Kon, who had worked on the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure adaptations. Kon was looking for another project. The idea of animating a horror story appealed to Producer Masai Maruyama of Tezuka Productions and their Madhouse Label for Darker content, which had released Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Maruyama asked Kon if he wanted to work on another film. He chose to pursue a darker original story about a group of girls who find themselves trapped in an underground facility which seems to always bring them back to the same bathroom as each are subjected to psychological torture. Ironically Kon did not like horror and considered it something anime was not good at when contrasted with American films such as Se7en, Basic Instinct and Silence of the Lambs. Kon worked on distancing the project by focusing on the perspective of the single protagonist and their own mental state. He also couldn’t resist the allure of directing for the first time. He leaned into a dream like quality to make the audience question what is real. He also wrote a story around bullying by giving the girls conflict relating to harassment on the internet from one another[8].

Spirited Away(1997)
Hayao Miyazaki’s last film before his planned retirement as he felt that Studio Ghibli was in good hands with Yoshifumi Kondo at the helm. When night falls, Yokai appear and Chihiro’s parents are turned into pigs as punishment for eating food intended for the Yokai. In the Beginning: Bible Stories(1997)
Prior to his death, Osamu Tezuka was contacted by the Vatican to make an adaptation of the Old Testament after the Pope greatly enjoyed his film adaptation Buddha. This led many to believe that Tezuka was a Buddhist. He was actually agnostic. The last anime adaptation of the Bible was Superbible by Tatsunoko, which had created a dark but accurate retelling of several events while including an action heavy plot. The fact that Tatsunoko collapsed soon after and some Christian groups claimed this was divine justice for their inaccurate depiction, calling it blasphemy. The Pope trusted Tezuka to adapt the testament faithfully and Tezuka did so, writing much of the original episodes including Noah’s Ark. While he was in hospital, Osamu Dezaki, took over and saw the project to completion. It was completed and shown after Tezuka’s death. While shown in Italy and the Vatican, it would take several years before it was shown to the public, including in Japan as a special event, playing the Noah’s ark episodes by Tezuka before King of the Jungle. The series was played by many and is sometimes used for education.

revolutionary-girl-utena-1-1.jpg

Revolutionary Girl Utena Kiss(1997)
Kunihiko Ikuhara had worked on Codename: Sailor V, but felt frustrated at the lack of creative control due to adapting an existing work. He gathered the Studio Daicon team, which was struggling at the time due to several financial failures. One of the writers was Yogi Enokido, who had written many of the episodes featuring the lesbian relationship between Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune, which became an influence on this new series. Based on the success of Codename Sailor V, the plot followed a group of female warriors called the “Neo Elegansar” who battled “the end of the world”. Inspired by the Takarazuka style, the cast consisted of women who wore boy’s clothes. A School setting was also present. Chiho Saito was hired as the sole female member as the rest of the male staff feared that without her perspective they risked creating a parody of Shojo. During production more surreal elements began to appear, leading critics to view the story as a deconstruction of fairy tales and subverting the magical girl genre. The Takarazuka revue would ironically adapt the series.

As a child, Utena Tenjou was even a rose-engraved signet ring by a traveling prince who promised they would meet again. This inspired Utena to “Become a prince” herself. As a teenager she attends the boarding school Ohtori Academy, where she gets into fencing and a sword dueling tournament with the student council, all with signet rings like her own. The reward is a slave named Anthy Himemiya. Utena is disgusted by slavery as a practice and wins the intent of freeing her. Utena wins and gains the honor of leading the “Neo Elengansar” which consists of the other student council members and now including Anthy, who she works towards adjusting in recovering from her trauma. Akio Ohtori, Anthy’s brother, makes a bid for power behind a sealed gate. The Neo Elegansar track Akio to a place referred to as “The End of the World”. Utena faces each member in a rematch and then fights Akio, who Utena discovers was the prince she met as a child. Anthy betrays Utena and stabs her in the back. Akio runs to obtain the power behind the gate, which causes the temple to begin collapsing. The injured Utena struggles to save Anthy, which causes her to realize her mistake. As the temple collapses, Akio and Anthy are separated from Utena, who Anthy vows to search for, believing she is still alive. This leads into a film wrapping up the storyline the following year[11].

Butterflied Away:
Hermes: Winds of Love. One of several Anime made by the Happy Science Cult. ITTL Their creator was killed by Aum Shinrikyo, which they were a rival of and unsuccessfully attempted to assassinate OTL. This butterflies away this film due to both the death and a government crackdown on cults.

NOTES
[1]The Plan for the Ghost in the Shell adaptation is to delay it to the 2010s, at which point Margo Robbie rather than Scarlet Johansen will play the Major. Carnivore and Plastic Man were both cancelled Wachowski films OTL. Plastic Man is essentially TTL's The Mask. For the Matrix, while Will Smith famously turned down the Neo role, Sean Connery was actually up to play the Oracle, here he plays Morpheus instead.

[2] OTL the author of Perfect Blue went back and forth on how to adapt it. OTL it became Satoshi Kon's first big film. ITTL this would be Darren Aronofsky's first film, replacing Pi. OTL he did try to adapt Perfect Blue but mentioned in an interview with Satoshi Kon that he had abandoned getting the rights by 2001. He was clearly a fan, homaging Kon's Perfect Blue in Requiem for a Dream and denying Black Swan was inspired by the film while acknowledging the similarities. Ironically ITTL, Aronofsky's Perfect Blue will draw inspiration from Kon's Saki Sanobashi. The success of Aronofsky's Perfect Blue will lead him to be offered and take a role directing Batman: Year One for Warner Bros, kicking off essentially TTL's equivalent to the Dark Knight Trilogy.

[3]An abridged version of Metal Gear’s history prior to 1997. OTL The original Metal Gear was turned into a stealth game because of Hardware limitations which do not exist ITTL and so it becomes a shooter under the name Intruder(1987). The better hardware leads to Hideo Kojima’s first big hit in the 5 act game Junker(1988)(OTL’s Snatcher), which has several OTL removed features now inserted back in for the same reason. Solid Snake(1990)(OTL’s Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) is the first true game one would recognize as a Metal Gear game and is closer in appearance to the OTL original Metal Gear, being praised for its stealth segments and gaining more attention and resources due to the success of Junker. This was followed by Beyond(1994)(OTL’s Policenauts). Because of these delays, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake or an equivalent was not made, which featured Big Boss's death, allowing him to appear in Metal Gear. None of the OTL Metal Gear Games made without Kojima's involvement exist.

The Inspiration for this came from the fact that OTL in this year Konami had an anime adaptation of Goemon, a video game property they own. ITTL with the other major Video Game Studios have adapted the likes of Super Mario Bros for Nintendo, Sonic for Sega, and Street Fighter for Capcom, Komani wants a piece of that pie and Metal Gear is their most cinematic franchise.

[4 ]Silent Hills or P.T. is an OTL cancelled game. The Boys: Kill the Se7en is based on a comment on twitter that Kojima made about how before The Boys came out he had an abandoned idea that was similar to it(Not in an accusatory way). Anthony Starr who plays Homelander commented on it. ITTL Kojima and an Early film production of The Boys which includes Hugh Jackman as Billy Butcher, collaborated on a video game, which is non-canon to TTL's Film series and allows the player to control the members of the Boys along with some Superhumans like Starlight and kill the members of the Seven. Closest OTL equivalent is probably Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League but this game does everything better due to Kojima's involvement.

The Finishers from the Call of Duty collaboration with The Boys can be scene as close equivalents to Game Over screens if the player is killed in the game.

[5]Escape from New York would normally not exist ITTL due to being inspired by the Watergate Scandal(Nixon won in 1960 and was assassinated in Kennedy’s place. John F.Kennedy then won in 1968). Here Carpenter working with Kojima helps bring what would have been that film out more as Carpenter gets to bring out those ideas much later. 1997 is ironically when the original Escape from New York took place. The plot is a mix of Metal Gear Solid and Escape from New York.

[6] John Carpenter’s career ITTL as of 1997 is as follows:

The Electric Dutchman(TTL’s Darkstar, his student film)
Assault on Precinct 13(1976)-Largely OTL.
Halloween(1978)-Biggest Difference is Christopher Lee as Dr.Loomis.
Meltdown(1980)-In place of the Fog. A film about a nuclear meltdown in a power planet. Could be considered TTL’s equivalent to The China syndrome. Its release was close to an actual near nuclear disaster and Carpenter’s credit led to more people seeing it. Not that anyone knows it but the film also indirectly contributed to the Chernobyl Disaster not happening due to certain people working at a certain power plant watching the film.
Planet of the Damned(1981)-A Science fiction equivalent to Escape from New York based on the Novel. Could be seen as that film IN SPACE!
Halloween II(1982)-Intended to be the last film ITTL as the series progresses to an anthology.
The Thing(1983)-The delay by a year saves it as it doesn’t have to go up against E.T.
Firestarter
(1984)-Originally a film he was tied to direct.
Big Trouble in Little China(1986)- Merged with the OTL film The Golden Child, as Big Trouble in Little China went through several rewrites that improved the film to what it became. As a result it stars Eddie Murphy in the Jack Burton role.
Armed and Dangerous(1987)-A John Candy Comedy that Carpenter was attached to direct.
They Live(1988)-Largely OTL.
Shadow Company(1992)-Written with Shane Black and starring Kurt Russel about a group of Dead Soldiers.
Pincushion(1994)- A Post Apocalyptic Odyssey film.
Creature from the Black Lagoon Remake(1995)-Made for Universal.

[7] OTL A Kimba the White Lion film was released in 1997(Which actually did kill off the protagonist, which here would be even more tragic for adults who grew up with the original series in the 60's or children who watched it before the film. Here its been mixed ironically with The Lion King, given that film has been accused many times of plagiarizing Kimba the White Lion. This may sound like a conspiracy theory but no one seems to be able to exactly remember where The Lion King as an idea came from. Jeffrey Katzenberg was working at Disney and had control at the time and he is the guy who had Dreamworks take similar ideas to whatever Disney and Pixar were doing to directly compete with them. I feel he may have been sneaky here. Regardless ITTL Walt Disney and Osamu Tezuka were friends and knew each other so here its a more direct tribute. Some other elements of the story and casting come from early drafts of The Lion King. For example Tim Curry was the choice to play Scar but was busy with Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

For the Similarities. Here is a video, which also helps to imagine TTL's King of the Jungle existing as a Venn diagram between the versions. Note that the Kimba the White Lion sections come from different versions including the 1997 one which came after.

[8] OTL Saki Sanobashi is an internet urban legend centering on a fictional anime from the late 80's to early 90's said to be too disturbing and so was cut. Confirmed to have been a hoax, hence the nonsensical title of "Go for a Punch". ITTL it replaces Perfect Blue as Satoshi Kon's debut psychological film and is hugely impactful to the genre.

[9] Miyazaki has claimed many times he would retire but always came back. This is however the first time as OTL he took a hiatus after Kondo's untimely death, as Kondo was intended to be his successor. ITTL at this point though as far as anyone knows, this is the end of an era with Miyazaki retiring and Spirited Away is treated as going out on a High Note with his best film to date. I honestly don't see the film being too different from OTL.

[10] In the series several of the characters: Anakaris, Rikuo, Sasquatch and Victor were apparently killed in a flashback. ITTL they appear. In terms of the Darkstalkers series as a whole. Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge is released as a special edition akin to what was done with Street Fighter due to essentially being the same game with added features and a similar storyline. Vampire Savior: World of Darkness is instead released as Darkstalkers 2. Due to a licensing deal, the Graz Entertainment Darkstalkers series does not exist and instead the anime was played.

Depriving This timeline of this:

[11] The Film Adolescence of Utena doesn't really conclude the story and basically just retells it. ITTL it will be a proper conclusion.

Great stuff!

Nice, it’s near to see a Lion King-esque film for Kimba ITTL.

Awesome! I like the idea that hoaxes/myths/legends are retroactively turned into reality ITTL.

Spirited Away(1997)
Hayao Miyazaki’s last film before his planned retirement as he felt that Studio Ghibli was in good hands with Yoshifumi Kondo at the helm. He experimented with CGI for the first time during the film but chose to use it to strengthen the 2D Animation rather than overwhelm it. The film concerns a young girl named Chihiro, who is traveling with her parents to a new home when they take a shortcut to an abandoned amusement park. When night falls, Yokai appear and Chihiro’s parents are turned into pigs as punishment for eating food intended for the Yokai. She is forced to work at a Bathhouse for the spirits run by the witch Yubaba in order to save her parents. The film was the most successful Ghibli and Miyazaki film to date, winning that year’s Best Animated Film Oscar[9].
And here it is!!! Yeah, I imagine that the film won’t be too different despite being released four years earlier than OTL, being a 90s film instead of a turn of the millennium film as a result. It is a pretty timeless film with the only scene of the modern world being before Chihiro and her parents enter the tunnel.

Oh nice! A religious anime. Seeing the Catholic Church’s reaction to and interactions with anime ITTL is weirdly amusing but also wholesome to me.

Berserk-1997-casca-griffith-guts-golden-age-min.jpg

Berserk(1997-2021)
An Adaptation of the Manga, released in parts once each arc concluded until the finale.
Damn, that’s a long runtime, but it’s an anime so I guess that shouldn’t be too surprising.

Nice. It should be interesting to see how the Matrix franchise will play out here with anime and eastern culture both being more popular in the West ITTL. I also like in a way how Neo and Morpheus are race swapped ITTL (Neo was played by Keanu Reeves and Morpheus by Laurence Fishburne IOTL.)

Nice! I also find it interesting how anime - despite being seen as niche and foreign back in the day - still had an impact on western directors IOTL, who weren’t put off by the language or cultural barriers that turned many people in America and elsewhere away.

Cool. I like how technology is kinda more advanced ITTL.

Nice, Silent Hills becoming a movie ITTL makes sense. I also like Hugh Jackman playing Billy, it just fits him perfectly. I actually thought Butcher was Australian until I found out he was British.

Neat. I guess Nixon can atleast be martyred and not remembered as a crook ITTL.

Good to know that Meldown prevented the Chernobyl Disaster ITTL, it’s neat how popular culture can affect real life like that. Nice that The Thing is successful due to being delayed, and it’s neat to see Eddie Murphy in Big Trouble in Little China too.

I’ve got two anime-related questions to ask:

1. What happens to those infamous animated Italian Titanic movies ITTL? IOTL they were made at a North Korean studio of all places, which explains the anime-esque look.
And 2. What will happen to Ghost Stories and it’s famous crack dub here?

For the Similarities. Here is a video, which also helps to imagine TTL's King of the Jungle existing as a Venn diagram between the versions. Note that the Kimba the White Lion sections come from different versions including the 1997 one which came after.
It's more like Kimba 1997 was trying to be like The Lion King - the original manga and anime were much crazier. Starting from the war with syllables, and ending with a human friend and his distraught bride.

1997 here we come!

Great stuff!

Nice, it’s near to see a Lion King-esque film for Kimba ITTL.
The Best middle ground between the versions. Combine them.
Awesome! I like the idea that hoaxes/myths/legends are retroactively turned into reality ITTL.
I have a few I plan to bring to life. Shazam the Sinbad Genie movie is one.
A lot of the film was based on Miyazaki's childhood such as him thinking a Bathhouse he didn't visit much was magical somehow because he saw things like a tiny door and one time when the town helped unclog a river by all pulling so the gunk would be removed, causing the water and fish to burst forth, which was the inspiration for a scene in Spirited Away. I can see those events still happening.
Oh nice! A religious anime. Seeing the Catholic Church’s reaction to and interactions with anime ITTL is weirdly amusing but also wholesome to me.
Believe it or not it's actually OTL, though This Timeline had the earlier religious series Tatsunoko's Superbook go off the rails.
Damn, that’s a long runtime, but it’s an anime so I guess that shouldn’t be too surprising.
It's released in parts over the years. So you'd get each arc being released and then maybe a few years before the next part is released. The best way this would work given how long Miura worked.
Part of the reason why Will Smith and Sean Connery turned it down was not understanding the script. I feel it would have more of a standard action movie feel(Maybe something like Men in Black with the focus on Smith's Neo learning about the "Real World" and Connery in the Agent Zed role), which would lead the Wachowskis to make Dark City or their Ghost In the Shell adaptation closer in tone to OTL's Matrix. Also the Wachowski's wanted Val Kilmer to play Morpheus.
Nice! I also find it interesting how anime - despite being seen as niche and foreign back in the day - still had an impact on western directors IOTL, who weren’t put off by the language or cultural barriers that turned many people in America and elsewhere away.
A lot of Popular American Directors have niche anime that they saw and loved. Cameron loved Aelita, Aronofsky loved Perfect Blue, Tarantino loved Golgo 13, etc.
Cool. I like how technology is kinda more advanced ITTL.
It's a tricky thing to keep realistic but there are some hypotheticals that would push things forward. Werner Von Braun for example said we could have people on Mars by the 1980's if we kept pushing with NASA after the Moon Landing.
Nice, Silent Hills becoming a movie ITTL makes sense. I also like Hugh Jackman playing Billy, it just fits him perfectly. I actually thought Butcher was Australian until I found out he was British.
Silent Hills is still a Video Game ITTL. Hugh Jackman was the first choice to play Billy. I had Russell Crowe play Wolverine so I figured I owed him and gave him Billy.
Neat. I guess Nixon can atleast be martyred and not remembered as a crook ITTL.
I picture him being shot while throwing up the V signs with his hands.
Good to know that Meldown prevented the Chernobyl Disaster ITTL, it’s neat how popular culture can affect real life like that. Nice that The Thing is successful due to being delayed, and it’s neat to see Eddie Murphy in Big Trouble in Little China too.
Eddie Murphy would have a boost in popularity largely due to playing Ernie Hudson in Ghostbusters ITTL.
I’ve got two anime-related questions to ask:

1. What happens to those infamous animated Italian Titanic movies ITTL? IOTL they were made at a North Korean studio of all places, which explains the anime-esque look.
How The First Film, Titanic: The Legend Goes On came about seems to be a mystery, so I can't really give any solid ways of butterflying it. The Second film however would not exist because North Korea would not exist by that time.
And 2. What will happen to Ghost Stories and its famous crack dub here?
Might still exist. I couldn't find much on the studio that made it except that they pulled that kind of shit before. The urban legend that Ghost Stories wasn't successful in Japan seems untrue. They might get an equivalent based on if a show bombs so badly that dubbing it becomes an afterthought.

Where did you find this and is there more?
Pinterest:
I don't think there are more but it's by Ritwell on Instagram. I thought his signature on the bottom worked for credit. Usually I search google for something that could fit my idea conceptually and if I can't find anything made by a person then I go to AI but that's a last resort since it isn't perfect. It couldn't create a good enough picture of Johnny Depp as Speed Racer and only one decent one of Heather Graham as Codename Sailor V.

Everyone I thought I'd share but nick_crenshaw82 did this edit of Johnny Depp as Speed Racer. I've added it in 1995 in Anime to represent that year's Mach Go Go Go. Before it was just a picture of the OTL film's Mach 5. I think he did a great job.
speed_racer_by_lurch_jr_dhieaxs-375w-2x.jpg

Some more nick_crenshaw82 stuff for Heather Graham as Sailor Venus, the star of TTL's Sailor Moon. I'm using the first one for the actual film entry.

Also some edits of Heather Graham as Sailor Moon.

Yep.

I have a few I plan to bring to life. Shazam the Sinbad Genie movie is one.
Very nice, I like that idea a lot. ❤️ 👍

Yeah that’s true.

Believe it or not it's actually OTL, though This Timeline had the earlier religious series Tatsunoko's Superbook go off the rails.
Nice, I know that Japan, regardless some of the isolation and xenophobia, are interested in Christianity and western culture.

released in parts over the years. So you'd get each arc being released and then maybe a few years before the next part is released. The best way this would work given how long Miura worked.

Hmm, interesting. So the Matrix doesn’t really have the same philosophical tone as OTL? I can imagine that.

A lot of Popular American Directors have niche anime that they saw and loved. Cameron loved Aelita, Aronofsky loved Perfect Blue, Tarantino loved Golgo 13, etc.
Nice! 🇺🇸❤️🇯🇵 I like the more inter-cultural world here ITTL!

It's a tricky thing to keep realistic but there are some hypotheticals that would push things forward. Werner Von Braun for example said we could have people on Mars by the 1980's if we kept pushing with NASA after the Moon Landing.
Yep, nothing too big or extreme.

Silent Hills is still a Video Game ITTL. Hugh Jackman was the first choice to play Billy. I had Russell Crowe play Wolverine so I figured I owed him and gave him Billy.
Ah okay then, and yeah Hugh Jackman was good as Wolverine so I can support this as a compromise.

I picture him being shot while throwing up the V signs with his hands.
That’s fitting.

Eddie Murphy would have a boost in popularity largely due to playing Ernie Hudson in Ghostbusters ITTL.
Yep, good for him and other non-white actors and actresses ITTL.

How The First Film, Titanic: The Legend Goes On came about seems to be a mystery, so I can't really give any solid ways of butterflying it. The Second film however would not exist because North Korea would not exist by that time.
Yeah, while I’m not offended by them as a Brit, they are certainly crazy and in poor taste. I can only imagine what an old Titanic survivor would think of them.

Might still exist. I couldn't find much on the studio that made it except that they pulled that kind of shit before. The urban legend that Ghost Stories wasn't successful in Japan seems untrue. They might get an equivalent based on if a show bombs so badly that dubbing it becomes an afterthought.
Those were wild dubs, even if they were given free reign. I guess the voice actors were fabs of dark and risky humour.

Some more questions for TTL:

1. What other video games and projects of Hideo Kojima are changed?
2. What happens to PlayStation, Xbox, and other video game consoles?
3. I remember asking a long time ago, but what will be the differences in GTA ITTL?

Some more questions for TTL:

1. What other video games and projects of Hideo Kojima are changed?
Metal Gear 2: Sons of Liberty(OTL's Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty) is released in 1999 with a story co-written by John Carpenter(OTL he was considering leaving directing before coming back for Vampires because he never did a western before). OTL the plot changed a lot being set in the Middle East and New York the same year the 9/11 terrorist attacks took place. Here because New York was used in the first game, L.A. is used instead, and the plot concerns finding Snake with Russell returning. The game is set in 2007 and concerns the President from the first installment causing California to split off from the US in an attempt to destroy it, leading the President to become the final boss after becoming a super soldier. The fight between Raiden and the President has the same sort of memetic mutation a OTL's fight with Senator Armstrong but is closer to fighting Ronald Reagan complete with having been a cowboy actor before becoming President.

The Zone of the Enders and Boktai series are thus far same as OTL.

Metal Gear 3: Snake Eater is released in 2002 and is a stealth prequel. The player would assume they are playing Snake complete with Kurt Russell voicing him and Carpenter onboard. It is set in the 1960's and the player is later revealed to be playing a young Big Boss. After this game, Kojima ended the series(OTL he wanted to and fan demand led to a 4th game. He intended to the open ended elements of the game to up to interpretation). Snake appears in Smash Bros: Melee with Kojima supervising the character and his stage(Kojima wanted this but was refused by Nintendo). He also produces The Metal Gear Rising Series, which leaned into Raiden as the new protagonist. In 2008, he released The Boys: Kill the Seven. An out of continuity game in which the cast of the ITTL Film Series are playable(Billy Butcher(Hugh Jackman), Hughie Campbell(Simon Pegg), Mother's Milk(Michael Jai White), French(Jean Reno), Kimiko and later Starlight, Queen Maeve ). Gameplay has the characters armed with weapons, both normal and advanced to science fiction levels along with injections of Compound V that grant temporary abilities like powerups the human characters can take. Bosses include: Homelander, The Deep(including a Giant Squid), Black Noir(in a stealth segment), Stormfront, A-Train, and Soldier Boy among possibly others. Common enemies include Vought Soldiers and smaller empowered humans. The game later gained an online mode.

ITTL Warner Bros equivalent to ' "Earth 27" is essentially an online game akin to DC Universe Online but also including other franchises Warner Bros owns. They brought The Boys into continuity(OTL DC actually did own them via their imprint Wildstorm but let them go). Kojima was among those brought in to find out how to tie in The Boys Universe to that of the larger world. Kojima asked for Snake to also be brought in and Warner Bros agreed. In terms of Continuity Vought Industries came to power after Adrian Veidt's company was seized in the midst of his involvement with the events of Watchmen and rebranded. Homelander was created after Superman was reported to have been killed as a clone of him and Lex Luthor. The Boys are working for Cadmus. On the Metal Gear side, Snake was sent into Gotham City during the "No Man's Land" Arc instead of New York. These events are essentially playable missions in the games.

In 2011, Kojima released a sequel to Junker(OTL's Snatcher) titled Junkers. In 2015 he released Silent Hills in collaboration with Guillermo Del Toro. Kojima then rose to become head of Konami rather than departing like OTL.
2. What happens to PlayStation, Xbox, and other video game consoles?
The Nintendo Playstation was realized ITTL. The Xbox still exists.
3. I remember asking a long time ago, but what will be the differences in GTA ITTL?
Began as Race N' Chase and released in 1996 as a game in which players control cops and robbers and chase each other. Grand Theft Auto: Liberty(Based on New York)(OTL's Grand Theft Auto III) is the first true Grand Theft Auto game ITTL. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City(Based on Miami)(Largely same as OTL), Grand Theft Auto: Paradise(Based on Las Vegas)(Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas), Grand Theft Auto: City of Angels( largely OTL's Grand Theft Auto IV), Grand Theft Auto: Gangsterland(Based on Chicago), and in the works games set in London and Tokyo tentatively called Grand Theft Auto: Big Smoke( A nickname for London, the basis for the game's setting but the game also features the character of Big Smoke), and Grand Theft Auto: Sunrise(Based on Tokyo). There were also successful efforts to remaster the older games, making those worlds bigger and bringing them into online.

Nice. I know that IOTL Sons of Liberty is considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time. I have a feeling Reagan winning in 1976 before losing in 1980 influences this.

Neat!

In 2011, Kojima released a sequel to Junker(OTL's Snatcher) titled Junkers. In 2015 he released Silent Hills in collaboration with Guillermo Del Toro. Kojima then rose to become head of Konami rather than departing like OTL.
Very nice! Kojima is very much more fitting and worthy of the top position of Konami than whoever is IOTL.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty(Based on New York)(OTL's Grand Theft Auto III) is the first true Grand Theft Auto game ITTL. So what happens with the OTL San Andreas cast ITTL? Do the different events of the 1990s in LA change things?

Do Niko Bellic and other GTA IV characters still exist ITTL? I say this as somebody with nostalgia for play the game years and years ago on my Xbox 360.

Do the OTL GTA V characters exist here?

Nice to know that the remasters are a success ITTL! I would like to see those older games updated and given new content.

Okay just three more questions and I’ll be out of your way for now:

1. What happens to the Fallout franchise ITTL? I do know that Bethesda is named Softwerke as was originally planned. I’ve personally only played Fallout 4 and I liked it.
2. What happens to the Saints Row, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed series ITTL? I’ve personally played atleast one entry of each of these series so I’m interested to know if you have any ideas for them here.
3. Besides Jerry Lewis’s The Day the Clown Cried (1972), are there any other infamous cancelled projects that are released ITTL to disastrous results?

So what happens with the OTL San Andreas cast ITTL? Do the different events of the 1990s in LA change things?
The cast changes to be closer in line with OTL's Grand Theft Auto V as it is set in an analogue of Las Vegas, meaning the plot revolves around robbing Casinos Ocean's Eleven style and doing weird things like dressing up like Elvis, and breaking into an analogue of Area 51 to steal alien technology. OTL the creators actually wanted multiple characters but hardware limitations prevented this. The game therefore has a similar "choose who to betray but you can team up with all of them instead" ending.
Do Niko Bellic and other GTA IV characters still exist ITTL? I say this as somebody with nostalgia for play the game years and years ago on my Xbox 360.
Vladimir Mashkov plays the character as was intended. OTL Mashkov didn't take the work seriously and was replaced by American actor Michael Hollick. This means less ambiguity on where he's from as while Hollick did a generic Eastern European accent(though the character is from Yugoslavia), Mashkov is Russian. The game tried to one up the previous game with four player characters, making Triad member Huang Lee(Chinatown Wars), Biker Billy Grey(The Lost and the Damned) and Gay nightclub owner Tony Prince(The Ballad of Gay Tony) all playable in the game. The plot follows a gang war which player choices determining who wins a battle between all four, though it's possible to avoid the deaths of all four and come to a truce.
Do the OTL GTA V characters exist here?
The Cast of San Andreas are moved to Grand Theft Auto: City of Angels. CJ actually meets the OTL GTA V cast during the game and it's part of a plot twist. CJ is already friends with Franklin, who has just got out of Prison. Michael is revealed to have faked his death to escape his life of crime and is now pursuing his dream of being a Film Director ,which leads him to investigate Tenpenny's illegal actions and the riots that ensue, threatening to expose them in his movie. Trevor also enters the story after discovering Michael is still alive. It's a unique case in that CJ meeting the cast of the previous game actually leads to the option of them becoming playable.

The first game runs on the GURPS System and was titled Wasteland, released in 1997. It uses the song "I don't want to set the World on Fire" in the actual game(Copyright prevented this until much later). It was 3D and first person(planned OTL but abandoned, ironically fitting it with later games). OTL Fallout was inspired by Wasteland but ITTL that game had its original plot of being similar to Red Dawn in plot resulting in a name change, though many of the same people worked on this game. As a result, similar elements from OTL's Wasteland introduced in the first game include a society in the ruins of Las Vegas called the Enclave and a rogue AI seeking to wipe out humanity that turns people into cyborgs(essentially a mix of OTL's villain the Master and the Enclave from the second game).

The Plot of the first game is set in 2087 with nuclear war having apparently wiped out humanity in 1998. The US Government has survived within the ruins of Las Vegas thanks to President Robert House, who used a supercomputer to destroy several nukes when they were fired(House ITTL is implied to have been a Walt Disney style figure with an amusement park and movie studio before he was asked to become President one day). The US Government remnants of the Enclave learn that the Pre-War AI dubbed "The Master" which helped save humanity has gone rogue and tasks the player with destroying it. The Cyborg Irwin Finster is one of the main forces that fights the player. The player succeeds with the help of a pre-war android named Max and sets off a nuclear bomb that destroys the base of the "The Master".

Wasteland 2 is released the following year(OTL the staff enjoyed working on the game and did not wait to begin work on the sequel). In the sequel the same player is sent out to the wasteland to retrieve a Garden of Eden survival kit to help restore the wasteland. He encounters a race of intelligent Deathclaws and super mutants and a society in which the Eden creation kit was tested and created a jungle. During his absence, a coup takes place in Las Vegas where the creator of the Eden Creation Kit, John Henry Eden(a parody of Bill Clinton ITTL), launches an attempt to overthrow President House. It is discovered that activating the Eden Creation Kit would wipe out all life on the planet before starting over but Eden is fine with this. The player is betrayed by their ally Frank Horrigan, who sides with Eden. The Player eventually kills Horrigan and Eden but is infected by a virus and must depart to prevent contaminating the rest of humanity, though the Eden is able to be reworked by scientists to gradually grow back life at a reduced and less harmful capacity.

Wasteland 3 butterflies away several games made during its development Hell period and is released by Black Isle Studios, who got the rights instead of Bethesda. OTL the Code name for the project was Van Buren. ITTL it was "Washington" hinting at the game's setting. The game has first person and turn based elements. The plot has the player having been captured in the American Southwest for a crime the player can determine if he was guilty or wrongfully accused. They also determine his species as either still human or transformed into a ghoul or Super Mutant by the Virus. A mad scientist named Victor Presper breaks him out, intending to use the Virus in his system as a weapon to wipe out all life under the orders of "Caesar's Legion" a Roman Empire inspired faction in the Wasteland. The Virus is extracted from the player and is now in the hands of Presper. The player then returns to New Vegas to warn them but they are hesitant to believe he has been cured and act hostile to the player. At this point the player can then choose a faction to join including the New California Republic, The Brotherhood of Steel, work to convince Robert House's Enclave, or switch to fully supporting Caesar's Legion. Helping Caesar's Legion results in the worst ending(killing House is even more tragic here as he came to believe the player character as his friend after the previous games), but most of the other factions could either commit to destroying the other sides or making peace with them. One ending even allowing House's Enclave to join the New California Republic(cut from the OTL Game but audio files of this can be found). Regardless the "Canon" ending is killing Caesar's Legion and the factions making peace. Interestingly Henry Eden appears in the game as a prisoner of Mr. House and is voiced by Bill Clinton(OTL they joked about asking him to provide a voice in Fallout 3, which already had many celebrity voices such as Liam Neeson and Malcolm McDowell but admitted the company would have said no even if he said yes).

Wasteland 4 is made by Black Isle Studios. Jonathan Nolan is involved in the game production ITTL(Uncertain yet if Westworld still happens ITTL and if Nolan is still involved as it was in development hell since the 1990's. It also had a cancelled series OTL called Beyond Westworld in 1980, which I imagine ITTL actually has many similarities with the OTL HBO Series in terms of plot, lasting until 1984). As a result the game has the Three protagonists from the OTL Series with a fourth playable character in the original protagonist making an appearance towards the end of the story mode(customizable with the player choosing him to be human, Ghoul or Super Mutant).

The Game begins with the player controlling Cooper Howard(ITTL he has blonde curly hair, alluding to him being the in universe inspiration for Vault Boy) at a Birthday Party in 1998 where he explains a thumb trick to his daughter Lucy if she ever sees an atomic bomb. A bomb drops during the Birthday party and Cooper barely reaches a nearby Vault on Horseback with his daughter. The two are separated and Lucy is taken from Howard and placed in cryostatis while Cooper is taken outside by Vault Overseer Hank McLane, who shoots him and buries him in a grave.

Several years later, Lucy, kept as a prisoner by Hank, is brought out and forced into an arranged marriage with another Vault only for it to be revealed that the Vault was taken over by Raiders, who attack the inhabitants. Hank is taken hostage by the Raider leader and Lucy pursues him to the surface only to lose them. Elsewhere, Brotherhood of Steel member Maximus is sent to the New England Commonwealth, where the Brotherhood of Steel, in alliance with the New California Republic and House's Enclave, seek to reclaim Washington D.C. from Caesar's Legion. Maximus is a Squire aiding a Brotherhood Knight named Titus. They are also told to be searching for a Dog experimented on which was stolen from the Enclave by a scientist working for an unknown faction(Dogmeat, The Player's Canine Companion from the previous games). when they reach Boston and start helping Preston Garvey of the Minutemen fight Caesar's Legion, Titus is wounded fighting a Deathclaw and either dies if the player refuses to help him or he is forced out of his armor while injured by Garvey but kept alive. Regardless, Maximus dons the Armor and kills the Deathclaw.

The Scientist who kidnapped Dogmeat experiments on and revives Cooper Howard as a Ghoul, forcing him to follow his commands and approach Boston for a secret meeting with his bosses at an underground center called the Institute. Lucy, Howard, and Maximus all converge in Diamond City and a fight ensues. The Scientist is decapitated but a resident named Piper explains that they know of a way to access memories to find the Institute. The Player then has the option of who to control. The Player then help rescue Android Detective Nick Valentine and he works to access the Scientist's memories and learn the location of the Institute. The Player from the first three games arrives and reveals that war has broken out on the West Coast between the New California Republic, Brotherhood of Steel and Enclave due to the NCR Capital of Shady Sands being nuked by an unknown enemy. The Player characters believe the Institute Responsible and choose a faction( NCR, Brotherhood, Enclave or even Caesar's Legion in a "my Enemy's enemy situation") to attack the institute after reviving the giant robot Liberty Prime. They also find that Hank had escaped the custody of the raiders and fled to the Institute, where he becomes the final boss the player characters battle together in his power armor before killing. The Institute facility reveals a recording of a meeting between Vault Tec and other officials to trigger the nuclear war themselves including President House. The Players(now possibly splitting up and switching sides), then work to bring peace to the Boston and Washington areas. Caesar's Legion being the only faction that refuses to surrender, requiring them to be defeated. The Player characters then head to the West Coast and fight in a battle in New Vegas between NCR, Brotherhood and Enclave forces. The Original Player can confront House here, though he will defend his actions as trying to save as many as he could when he realized he couldn't stop Vault Tech's plans. If he is not killed, House will be forced to resign as President when the information became public and democratic elections are restored with Henry Eden being among the Candidates. One ending results in all the Player characters of the Game having a battle Royale. The three original to the game fight each other if they picked opposite sides and the winner then fights the original player character with the Player choosing who wins.

This was seen as the end to the franchise. Wasteland Online followed and opened up the Post-Apocalyptic US from the franchise up in an open world for players to explore and choose their side proper from the three main factions from the series(NCR, Brotherhood, Enclave) and other smaller factions. House has been reduced to just Vegas while Eden has become Enclave President(amusingly one of the events is players be able to elect one of their own as President though this just earns some extra abilities and the title). One of House's missions is reclaiming the ruins of his old Theme park Nuka World.

A Spinoff game called Meantime was released(OTL cancelled planned sequel to the original Wasteland). The plot involved a scientist inventing a Time Machine and the player chasing after them to stop their evil schemes and recruiting the likes of Amelia Earhart, Werner Von Braun, Cyrano De Bergerac and others. The game has a scene in which the antagonist brings Julius Caesar from his death and several Roman Soldiers to the wasteland, implying this was the in-universe explanation for where Caesar's legion came from.

2. What happens to the Saints Row, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed series ITTL? I’ve personally played atleast one entry of each of these series so I’m interested to know if you have any ideas for them here.
Saints Row: Changes begin in the 2nd game which is a prequel set in the 70s showing how the protagonists rose to power and ending right as the first game begins. Between the 2nd and 3rd game Saints Row: Money Shot where an assassin can control the direction of their bullets was released. Saints Row 3 is instead about an undercover cop, not going wacky as OTL. Without THQ collapsing, Saints Row: Part IV is released and keeps the original tone and is set in a new city. This is the last entry in the series to date. Agents of Mayhem was released as a new separate series introducing Superhero elements.

Far Cry: The First game was released as X-Isle: Dinosaur Island. It had two DLC Crossovers. One with Jurassic Park in which the protagonist explored the original island, and one with the Predator. In which the player control a Yautja Hunter and then fights them as the player. The original game however becomes forgotten and OTL's Far Cry 2 is TTL's Far Cry. Following this OTL's Far Cry 3 is TTL's Far Cry 2 with Vaas being the antagonist for the entire game rather than to the Mid-Point. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon doesn't exist ITTL but to compensate the same crew turned OTL's Kung Fury into a Video Game with the 80's heavy style. OTL's Far Cry 4 is TTL"s Far Cry 3. Far Cry Primal does not exist. OTL's Far Cry 5 is OTL's Far Cry 4. Far Cry 5 ITTL is instead set in a European country to provide a new location and have a game set in a fictional country on a different continent in every installment and gained more favorable reviews than OTL.

Assassin's Creed: Compared to OTL the games are backwards somewhat. The First game in 2007 is similar to Assassins Creed: Origins with the player choosing between a male and female assassin and having Julius Caesar and Cleopatra among the targets. There's no Animus ITTL but there are early on mythical elements including Egyptian and the Olympian Mythology elements are subtly revealed to exist. The DLC usually goes into the more supernatural elements. The Curse of the Pharaohs has the player battle the mummies of Nefertiti, Ramases II and Tutankhamen. Assassins' Creed: Odyssey is released next in 2009 and is a prequel showcasing elements from Greek Mythology and historical characters like Leonidas and Xerxes as well as Zeus. Poseidon, Hades, Medusa, the Cyclops, and the Minotaur among others. Next is Assassin's Creed: Mirage in 2011 with an 800's Baghdad setting and featuring Sultan Harun Al Rashid, and its own versions of Aladdin, Sinbad, Jaffar and Ali Baba. Then Assassin's Creed: Valhalla in 2013 with Norse Mythology elements. Ragnar Lothbrok appears in the story as does Odin, Loki, Thor, Fenrir and others as well as a depiction of Ragnarok. Assassin's Creed: Crusade in 2015 set in the 1190's and featuring King Richard I, Robin Hood, and Prince John among others. Assassin's Creed: Renaissance in 2017 with Ezio Auditore and including Leonardo Da Vinci, Mona Lisa, Christopher Columbus and others with a 1470's setting. Assassin's Creed: Samurai in 2019, set in 1580's Japan and including Oda Nubunaga, Hattori Hanzo, and Leyasu Tokugawa. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag in 2021 set in the 1710's and featuring Blackbeard among others. Assassin's Creed: Revolution in 2023 which covers both the American and French Revolutions and includes George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Benedict Arnold, Napoleon, Marie Antionette and others. Future installments would include Assassin's Creed: Victoria in 2025 set in the 1880's and involving Queen Victoria, Jack the Ripper, and others.

3. Besides Jerry Lewis’s The Day the Clown Cried (1972), are there any other infamous cancelled projects that are released ITTL to disastrous results?
You'll have to name specific Projects.

So will this film be anime, or live-action?
Pokemon(Anime began this year) and One Piece(Manga began this year) will have their own dedicated entries.
Ok.

Holy crap.....this move looks awesome!
Lupin IV: The Time Bombed Skyscraper(1997)
The First film to feature Lupin IV. The Detective is placed against a mad bomber, giving the film a race against time element as Lupin IV must defuse bombs as well as realize their target is a building constructed by an architect that bomber has a rival against.

Crayon Shin-chan: Pursuit of the Balls of Darkness(1997)
Shinnosuke and his dog Shiro find an unconscious man by a lake.He finds a shining ball that his sister Himawari accidentally swallows. At night the man leads a break in and demand the Shiny Ball. When it is revealed that that Himawari swallowed it, they take the entire Nohara family with them and reveal themselves as members of the Tamayura tribe. They explain that another tribe called the Tamayumi once realized a powerful dark entity called Jack, who was sealed away into items, one of which is the Shiny Ball. They are joined by a female cop named Yone Higashimatsuyama, who wants to seek glory of herself after the group is ambushed at a dance bar. Despite their efforts, the Tamayumi obtain all the parts and revive Jack in the final battle, only for it to be revealed Jack was depowered and is now a long lived human. The Tamayumi are then defeated and arrested.

That's beautiful. Is this TTL's equivalent to The Lion King?
Where'd you find the poster?
Saki Sanobashi(1997)
Translated as “Go for a Punch”. The series was the first motion picture work by Satoshi Kon, who had worked on the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure adaptations. Kon was looking for another project.
Nice title. Also, what does the adaptations of Jojo look like ITTL? And do they get imported to the West?
The idea of animating a horror story appealed to Producer Masai Maruyama of Tezuka Productions and their Madhouse Label for Darker content, which had released Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
WAIT.........

Madhouse is a part of Tezuka Productions? Well I'd be damned. What do they make under Tezuka, and I wonder what'll happen with MAPPA.
Oh damn, this looks like it's gonna be a good movie.

Glad this is still around. I loved the visuals when I watched this last summer.

Meh.

There were rumors that Capcom wanted to turned Darkstalkers into a film franchise like they had planned with Street Fighter but these plans were halted as Universal had plans for their own Monsters cinematic universe[10].
Nice. What were the Street Fighter and Megaman series ITTL? Oh, why not just have Capcom find another studio to make the Darkstalkers films, or have Universal put Darkstalkers into the universe?

Interesting................is Berserk like OTL's version?
Butterflied Away:
Hermes: Winds of Love. One of several Anime made by the Happy Science Cult. ITTL Their creator was killed by Aum Shinrikyo, which they were a rival of and unsuccessfully attempted to assassinate OTL. This butterflies away this film due to both the death and a government crackdown on cults.
oh......

Ok.
The Nintendo Playstation was realized ITTL. The Xbox still exists.
Cool.

@Marco Incognito

So will this film be anime, or live-action?
Live-Action
What is the movie about?
It's based on a children's book about a boy who finds himself on an island and finds a Dragon he then raises. The narrator is evidently the son of the boy in the story and refers to him as "My Father".
That's beautiful. Is this TTL's equivalent to The Lion King?
Yes.
Where'd you find the poster?
It's by Advanced-Brother3420 on the r/SakiSanobashi subreddit. I don't go to reddit much. It just came up when I looked for images to represent it.
Nice title. Also, what does the adaptations of Jojo look like ITTL? And do they get imported to the West?
They do. Jojo's adaptations are scattered around starting in 1987. I'll probably take them and group them together.
WAIT.........

Madhouse is a part of Tezuka Productions? Well I'd be damned. What do they make under Tezuka, and I wonder what'll happen with MAPPA.
OTL Mushi Productions went under and Osamu Tezuka then founded Tezuka Productions. Here Mushi Productions survived. When Osamu Tezuka passed away in 1989, Mushi was renamed to Tezuka Productions in his honor. Most of the founders of Madhouse left Mushi when it collapsed and here they stayed and created the "Madhouse" label for darker content as a reference to their work ITTL on a Planet of the Apes adaptation. MAPPA may not even exist. It depends on the studio's financial situation when we hit 2011, which led them to form MAPPA OTL.
That's interesting. What's CLAMP up to ITTL?`
So far they are going largely the OTL Cast with some upcoming differences such as Cardcaptor Sakura being named CardCaster Sakura, Working on the story of Code Geass not just the design leading to a different plot, and working directly with Mamoru Oshii on Blood: The Last Vampire and its series.
Wow. What is Haunted Junction? This is my first time hearing of this.
It's a Comedy series from OTL dealing with exorcists and the monsters they face.
Is this some kind of spinoff of the AD Police Files or any of the other 80s cyberpunk anime?
No relation. AD Police Files doesn't exist ITTL because Bubblegum Crisis doesn't exist as it was created after the dissatisfaction the creators had for another series they worked on which ITTL was completed.
Nice. What were the Street Fighter and Megaman series ITTL? Oh, why not just have Capcom find another studio to make the Darkstalkers films, or have Universal put Darkstalkers into the universe?
Street Fighter had a movie, see 1994 in Anime. Megaman had a series. See 1993 in Anime. Putting Darkstalkers into Universal isn't a simple fit and runs the risk of being seen as a ripoff.
Interesting................is Berserk like OTL's version?
Berserk has its own dedicated post for plot details. It's around 1989.

(Sorry if I took a while to respond, I was busy with IRL stuff.)

Interesting, so I’m guessing that this is a hybrid of OTL GTA San Andreas and GTA V (in the latter case in the 3D universe instead of the HD universe). Also that neat technology boost coming in handy too!

Oh yeah I’ve heard about that. I prefer the OTL voice actor but I bet Mashkov can be just as good of a voice actor. Maybe in my timeline he could still have a voice role as a character in GTA IV…

Woah! That’s actually really awesome! It’s like a retroactive inclusion of the three into the franchise earlier.

Nice, I like that song is able to be used from the start. Also, I like how it’s first person and 3D from the start, as some believe that the Fallout games became bad after they moved away from 2D and third person, but I’m not sure if that could be continued into the 2010s and beyond. I prefer Fallout as the name but again that’s for my personal utopia, not here.

It’s great to know that Vaas is still a character ITTL! He’s like the Heath Ledger Joker of video games.

Neat and interesting, a reversed line-up if you will. I guess there isn’t the same time travel element as in the OTL games with people in the modern day without the Animus?

You'll have to name specific Projects.
Ah, I mean like projects that were announced to be in development, but were met with a negative reception, or were just crazy and wild, that we’re never released, or just looked like they weren’t going to be good or successful.

Here are some examples that I can think of:
  • Gladiator II: Before being finally announced in 2018, the sequel to Gladiator was going to have Maximus revived by the Roman gods to kill Jesus Christ, with him gaining immortality and working at the Pentagon by the modern day.
  • Foodfight!: While eventually released in 2012, the film was originally going to be released in Christmas 2003, but the files were stolen in 2002 and hence was delayed by almost a decade, resulting in the infamous product of OTL.
  • The Chronicles of Rick Roll: An indie film based on early internet memes like Double Rainbow and Bed Intruder. I can easily imagine how this is butterflied away, with Rick Rolling in particular not becoming a thing here ITTL for one.
  • Gen Zed: An animated webseries that was supposed to release in 2015 or 2016, but never did, and the promo was met with a negative reception due to the animation and dialogue. The people behind the show also incorrectly claimed to have the first transgender voice actress in an animated series.
I assume that they are either never conceived, or they are actually released in order to contrast between the bad media and the good media ITTL.

Interesting, so I’m guessing that this is a hybrid of OTL GTA San Andreas and GTA V (in the latter case in the 3D universe instead of the HD universe). Also that neat technology boost coming in handy too!
Essentially yes.
Oh yeah I’ve heard about that. I prefer the OTL voice actor but I bet Mashkov can be just as good of a voice actor. Maybe in my timeline he could still have a voice role as a character in GTA IV…
He'd either grow to like the role or it would be like Alec Guiness or Harrison Ford. Hates the role but comes back for money and is so good at it anyway.
Woah! That’s actually really awesome! It’s like a retroactive inclusion of the three into the franchise earlier.
Most of the GTA games had the same people working on them so I don't see it as improbable.

No Animus, a play on people saying that was the weakest parts of the story.
  • Gladiator II: Before being finally announced in 2018, the sequel to Gladiator was going to have Maximus revived by the Roman gods to kill Jesus Christ, with him gaining immortality and working at the Pentagon by the modern day.
Gladiator stars Narcissus(Who is historically said to have strangled Commodus) and is still directed by Scott. Russel Crowe plays Wolverine ITTL and is unavailable. Instead Mel Gibson plays the role(considered OTL), which leads the Patriot to star Harrison Ford, who has them tone down the script as OTL his complaint was boiling down the American Revolution to one man wanting revenge. Jude Law plays Commodus and Jennifer Lopez plays Lucilla. Mel Gibson took over Gladiator II and turned Narcissus into a warrior cursed in Hell and sent to kill Jesus Christ(with the Controversy akin to Passion of the Christ OTL ensuing from the film) and then becoming immortal and fighting in several wars until being shown working for the Pentagon in the modern day. Many see it as Mel Gibson's ego trip.
  • Foodfight!: While eventually released in 2012, the film was originally going to be released in Christmas 2003, but the files were stolen in 2002 and hence was delayed by almost a decade, resulting in the infamous product of OTL.
Released in 2003, and bombs.
  • The Chronicles of Rick Roll: An indie film based on early internet memes like Double Rainbow and Bed Intruder. I can easily imagine how this is butterflied away, with Rick Rolling in particular not becoming a thing here ITTL for one.
I don't see it existing since Memes tend to be very vulnerable to butterflies.

I don't see this existing either due to possibly different social trends.
