Trouble in the East

The fact that France was forced to accept the blame for the First World War could be seen as unfair and almost amnesiac on Britain’s part given the effect on Britain of the great eastern war with Russia However this was not a decisive war where all the countries on one side had lost but rather a brutal humiliation of some and a stalemate for others. If we look at the main belligerents involved British empire, Germany, Austria Hungary and Japan versus France, Russia U.S.A and the Ottoman empire.
After the WW1 or the great war Russia did not exist as a coherent entity...
The U.S.A was the exception amongst the entente powers in terms of the fact that it managed to impose it’s own terms on Canada, which it must be said were relatively lenient for so much bloodshed. The terms must be seen due to three factors the fact that the war in America had been won and the American public saw no need to continue fighting even with a hawkish press. The second reason is that the battle of the Atlantic had not yet been decided at the end of the war and that the British Empire was capable of fighting for what was estimated at the time to be at least another 2 years.
Despite being on the losing side Italy managed to avoid punishment, although this is more due to the weakness of the Austro Hungarian empire than Italy itself
These days the blame of WW1 has been shifted away from Russia and in most cases to Britain which if we look superficially at the causes of WW1 would appear to be correct. Both the British state and the media would appear to have wanted war. Given the nature of the great eastern war in which Britain ended up losing parts of northern India to Russia and saw the British empire nearly cut in half when Russia annexed large parts of Persia.
The great eastern war stretching from Russian Alaska to Persia was not one war but a large territorial struggle between the British Empire and the Russian empire consisting of numerous minor wars. Very little fighting took part in Alaska and Canada due to the harsh terrain, instead British and Russian corporations fought each other.

No its my ( apparently bad) attempt at a timeline with the POD being that William Seward is stillborn and thus Russia does not manage to sell Alaska and instead decides to explore it to try and find gold etc. As a result the great game goes hot with a low intensity war between Britain and Russia until the 1st world war which happens in 1905 due to Russo Japanese war escalating.

1st world war is Britain, Germany, AH and Japan Vs. France, Russia U.S.A Italy and the Ottoman empire. Russia gets so badly screwed in this war that it fragments massively Ottoman empire loses as well and France is pretty fucked. Italy gets off lightly.

Britain goes socialist/social democratic in this TL with a long period of labour party rule.
I hope this helps

No, sorry, it wasn't bad. In fact I really liked the style, and it showed more thought than a lot of threads, which can only be good. It's just that, as you didn't state the POD or comment on possible PODs, I was confused into thinking that you were trying to suggest that you were looking for DBWI responses. My apologies.

It looks good, though it's slightly out of my range of experience (time-wise) to comment on properly...

Commercial rivalry between Britain/ Russia spread to Alaska/Canada when Russia went looking into Alaska and the U.S started to move closer to Russia and joined the alliance along with France partly to discourage British aggression into Alaska.

Winston Churchill was a boor, a thug a womaniser, a member of the old guard, someone who if he and the national Conservatives had succeeded in their coup would have attempted to destroy the working class by his attempted coup in 1930. In short we owe the fact that we live in a, while imperfect country . The situation is a lot better than most. Here university education is for free...

We have the edge on a lot of countries with regards to climate change as we already have a free bus system and even small villages have a train system
In the 1970’s David Serpell head of the centre right union party who was one of the 10 MPs for Oxfordshire and South Buckinghamshire advocated the destruction of our public transport system with numerous train lines being destroyed. Which would have caused misery for thousands of rural people. The fact that Mr Serpell was unable to push those cuts even in the right wing North Oxfordshire and the fact that I personally was able to leave at wolvercote halt and talk here for the liberal party is testament to the fact that investment works. Cuts do not...

Do you want the country to end up like Barcelona where anarchists are free to set up their own debauched society, like Scotland where evil socialism is the Norm or do you want Britain to be Britain. Good citizens of North Oxfordshire vote Stalwart party for a better Britain and let us terrify Oxford into being moral again.
Speech from Daniel Hannan head of the Stalwart Party
These days the Stalwart party could be considered a regional party as it’s support base is only concentrated around North Oxfordshire and parts of the Midlands. The fact that Tony Blair tried to crush it shows his own weakness, he should resign at once for his sheer stupidity in trying to gain more liberal votes in North Oxfordshire, he should have gone south to Oxford which went between the Socialist and environmental party and has great potential for the liberal party

The great eastern war which happened from 1878-1900 was not a war in the conventional sense but rather a limited form of colonial war between Russia and Great Britain. The fact that at the time Russia was seen as a great, potentially undefeatable enemy was in the press due to numerous reasons. Britain was aware that the situation in Europe was changing with Germany becoming a power that could not be ignored. Russia was growing closer to the U.S. There was concern in the British establishment that Russia could if it had allies defeat Britain in a conventional war. By 1900 it was clear that Britain had managed to encircle Russia by entering into an alliance with Germany, Japan and the Austro Hungarian empire.
The abandonment of support for Balkan rebels against the Ottoman empire was part of the successful Russian plan to gain Ottoman support against Britain in 1890. What was unexpected however was that Serbia decided to become neutral as it felt it was sandwiched in between 2 much larger powers. This was to prove decisive in the collapse of the Ottoman empire.
