In 1918, a Dutch politician named Pieter Jelles Troelstra and his socialist political party, the SDAP, attempted a socialist revolution in the Netherlands. The coup failed, partially because the monarchists and counter-revolutionaries ran a strong propaganda campaign and partially because there was no official SDAP plan for a coup. It's debatable how effective the revolution could have been, but there are some that believe that if the SDAP had been able to take a symbolic goal it would have been more successful than in OTL.
Thus, WI the SDAP captures the Rotterdam City Hall, a place of unrest and a SDAP stronghold? What are the chances of the revolution being successful, and what would the Netherlands be like if Troelstra's coup had truly worked? What would be the effects of a widespread coup not being successful--namely, would we see executions and/or imprisonments that would lead to decades of political and social unrest in the country? What would a socialist, SDAP-run Dutch government look like during the inter-war years and what policies would they pursue? Finally, would they be better at building defensive fortifications or battling the Nazis than in OTL?
