Triumphant Defeat: American-British War TL

Yes, I know this has all been done before, and I know it won't be very good, but this is my first timeline I intend to try to stay with. I have had an idea rolling around in my head for a while about the implications of a second English-American War after the Revolution and before 1812, so I decided that I would have a go at writing it all down in really quite sketchy quality. Feedback is always welcome, aswell as criticisms, thankyou :) Enjoy!

TRIUMPHANT DEFEAT

Prologue: The Wars

On the Fourth of April, 1756, the inhabitants of the British island of Minorca in the Mediterreanean Sea, were awoken in the early hours of the morning by the sounds of warships advancing towards them. This was a French blockade, lead by the celebrated Naval Commander, La Galissonière.
The island had become Britain's central possession in the Mediterreanean after it was acquired, along with the Fortress of Gibraltar, from Spain in the Peace of Utrecht, signed after the War of the Spanish Succession some forty years earlier. The British had established a fortress there, known as Fort St. Philip, which defended the island from the Berber Pirates of the North African Coast and tried to defend the island from the attacking fleet of French ships.
However, the Naval Commander stationed at the fortress, John Byng, was not able to lead his troops and limited, tired fleet to victory against the attackers. Instead, the island was talen by the French and Byng was shunned by the British populace and sentenced to death on account of treason by the Courts.

This minor skirmish, though, signalled the start of the Seven Years' War, the first ruly worldwide war, with theatres in India, in the Gambia and along the West Coast of Africa, in mainland Europe, in North America, in South America and in the Phillipines. It was rather unaptly named however, as the war actually lasted for over nine years.
It was one of the bloodiest and most costly wars ever seen, with over a million dead and millions of thalers lost. By the end of the war, Europe's borders remained unchanged, whilst various colonies around the world changed hands; most notably New France and various Caribbean islands
(Ceded by France to Britain), Louisiane (Ceded by France to Spain) and Florida (Ceded by Spain to Britain).

That's the end of the first prologue, the second and last should behere tomorrow, with the POD coming at the end of it. Thanks :)
