Eh the issue is Russia doesn't really have the capability to exploit the gold rush. Plus the area where the gold is was British, something that people kinda seem to forget. Now the Nome(yes the same Nome from Balto) and Fairbanks gold rush is where it'll be if Russia really wants to start exploiting Alaska.

Edit: Had a thought, unless the area gets overrun by Russians and leads to tensions between the British and Russians that drive them further apart.
