"Trinity" Fails to Detonate

Just to round out the inevitable copycat threads. ;)

So, Trinity doesn't go off. What does this do to the US nuclear program? Preumably they'll still use Little Boy, just because it's a simpler model. But how long will it be before they try a Pu bomb again?

...And how long after July 16th will it be before they try to retrieve it? ;)

How does it fail to detonate? Because if its a problem with the trigger I would think that they would fix the malfunction and try again.

Well after it doesn't go off there's bound to some kind of diagnostic, its not like there going to go "ZOMG, the million dollar bomb didn't blow up lets just forget about it.". That's way its important to know the the issue is, if like I said it was something like the trigger mechanism, they could easy find the problem and fix it. But if it was a fundamental problem with the fissile material or something, then I could imagine it being more likely for them to drop the project (Though not likely)
