Trent Affair escalates and then escalates some more

Suppose that the Trent Affair had escalated into Britain supporting the Confederates. The French were never really buddies with the British (they didn't get into an alliance until 1904, even though they both didn't like Imperial Germany). Russia wasn't much of a buddy with the British as they wanted Constantinople, access to the Med and liberating the Balkans while doing so which the British didn't want. They might seize this moment of British weakness to attack the Ottomans again. I suppose the war could escalate further. Perhaps the Italians could join in return for French approval for Italian unification. The Prussians will likely be in whatever alliance the Austrians are not in.

Plenty of room for a world war if the governments involved think they can win and are willing to let it happen.

I don't know if these ramblings make any sense (or if they are ASB, admittedly, this time period isn't my area of expertise) but if they do, I'd like to flesh it out into a TL

What are you saying here? That France isn't involved?

Russia wasn't much of a buddy with the British as they wanted Constantinople, access to the Med and liberating the Balkans while doing so which the British didn't want.

That's to simplify drastically. For one thing, the Russians wanted to rule the Balkans, not "liberate" them (the Bulgarians, not just the Turks, would be with me there). For another thing, the Russians wanted to control the passage of the straits, but only a few ties did they contemplate doing this by taking them over. For a third, after the Crimean War, Russia had no Black Sea fleet, and so wanted to keep other powers out of the Black Sea. They might seize this moment of British weakness to attack the Ottomans again.

That said, I don't know any specific reason for Russia not to attack, but there probably is one.

I suppose the war could escalate further. Perhaps the Italians could join in return for French approval for Italian unification.

The French had arrpoved it earlier in the year. Italy may strike Austria if it is distracted in order to grab Venetia, though.

The Prussians will likely be in whatever alliance the Austrians are not in.

Would they even attack?

I'm dubious, but knowledgeable.
