Treaty of Versailles recognizes independent United States

On September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Versailles recognized an independent United States of America.
Suppose the Treaty of Versailles did not recognize the independence of the United States.
How does this affect the new nation?

Then the USA doesn't sign it and the ARW goes on. In one form or another. But the UK WANTED the war to be over, and unless Lords North and George Germain manage the biggest political comebacks of all time, that isn't happening.

In essense, without a treaty despite Virginia Capes and Yorktown, the question will be just how much power was/is/will be exercised by the Admiralty to prevent any such recognition in the future. The Royal Navy certainly did NOT want to see the USA treated as a separate independent nation, for obvious reasons.
