Treaty of Sevres

The problem is that neither the Greeks, British, French, or Italians would have accepted such minor gains.

I think the Entente could go for minor gains if the Ottomans fought the Entente like the Germans did with the Entente and the Ottomans don't collapse so soon and if the Entente was suitably bloodied as well.

They did try, as in Gallipoli. In fact, until the empire simply fell apart in 1917, they did fight the Entente with as much courage, if with not as much equipment. And, in fact, the Turks in the end did manage to do more or less the equivalent.

Having said that, the other problem with the Straits is that Britain and Wilson wanted the Straits to be an international zone, rather than deal with the issues of a country having control over such a vital area, especially with a Communist Russia controlling the Black Sea. So that's another issue. However, I think that Britain would rather a Greek Constantinople than a Turkish Istanbul.

I think if a Greece could guarantee a international zone for trade and transit (except for the Soviets) and the Turkish government/revolutionaries start to lean to the Soviets seriously enough that the Entente think they could turn, then the British might let the Greeks have Constantinople, but only if they guarantee free trade and transit to the Entente and if the Greeks "leans" to the Entente.

You may need to specify, you have put forth many opinions on here.

I meant the quote above yours.

Maybe if that combination came true, but I doubt that the Turks would lean towards the Soviets unless they kept their eastern frontier.

Do you often repeat the same thing as if an order when someone replies to you?

I actually have no idea why i repeated that, i really shouldn't have.

Edit: I think i know why i repeated that. The next priority after the war was to try and contain the Soviet Union and prevent communism from spreading over the continent and the Entente wouldn't want a pro-Soviet govenment to control the straits of the Dardanelles and the Bosphrous and if the Turks lean to the Soviet's, then Greece will get Eastern Thrace and vice versa with Greece leaning Soviet.
