Transatlantic Sealion

Let's say there's the USA on one side, and a wanked Nazi Germany/Soviet Union/etc. that controls all of Europe on the other side.

Would they be able to touch each other when there's the Atlantic Ocean between them? I mean, if crossing the channel is such a taboo, then this must be outright impossible, right?

The problem isn't that it's impossible for Germany to make a successful invasion (with a far back enough POD), but that Sealion is impossible.

But crossing the Atlantic to land on what amounts to a hostile continent-sized power's shores . . .

Yeah, that's pretty much unworkable.

Give them about 50 years to prepare, and they might be able to pull it off.

This, off course, assumes that America/Canada sit there with their thumb up their ass during that time frame.

Having to hold down Europe, I do not think Nazi Germany would be able to commit the resources nessasary to build a naval force to invade the USA.

Pretty much unworkable w/o decades of unencumbered and unmatched preparation in terms of weapons, machinery (air, sea, land and orbital/space) and personnel.

Hmm, what if the this theoretical north american superpower (which we are calling the USA for now) swiftly seized Greenland and Iceland to stage an invasion?

Or for this theoretical European superpower, could it invide Canada from Greenland?

Most likely not. Greenland is severely lacking in port facilities of the size necessary to support an invasion force. There is also the fact that the Labrador Sea is full of ice for a significant part of the year. The most it could be used for would be as an area to stage aircraft.
