Trans-American Express: Kraftwerk Comes To America

A musical WI:

In the mid-Seventies Kraftwerk were largely unknown in the US and had only modest success, although their music was hugely influential in electronic music later on.

WI Kraftwerk had enjoyed greater breaktrhough success in the States, and their music became a rival of the more commercialized disco sound? What would a Seventies techno scene have looked like?

Just wonderin'...

Another Kraftwerk fan , yay!

I think the 50 Years collaborative TL has something called a "German Invasion" where German Electronic and Krautrock bands come into vogue in
America, and Germany is (IMHO, very rightly) looked upon as a source of innovation in music.

Well, as for your POD, let's assume that Kraftwerk has as much a following in America as it did in the UK. And Maybe Can and Neu! following on their heels.

With Kraftwerk penetrating mass consciousness in America, the result would be a synthpop scene not so heavily dominated by the UK as Americans teenagers would have formed bands trying to imitate Kraftwerk too-- and American synthpop might be completely different from the UK in terms of culture and audience if not sound. (Hmm... a totally new scene... melikes).

This will also probably lead to post-punk having more mainstream popularity in America as lot of Early post-punkers were taking cues from Kraftwerk and German Electronic music, and Americans will now "get" post-punk the first time around.
