TR at Versailles

What if Teddy won in 1912? We could have Taft retire for health reasons. With his weight that was always possible. Lets then have Roosevelt win reelection in 1916. So how is the Versailles treaty different if TR helps write it?

Judging from his stance in ending the Russo-Japanese War, he wouldn't be much of an idealist like Wilson. So most likely there would be no LoN. He would also propably allow France to be more punitive towards Germany, seeing that Germany would be more of a compettitor than potential allyin his eyes. Not certain if he would be able to permanently commit the US to European affairs though, so the question of enforcing Versailles would still be open.

Well, we wouldn't have the disaster of the US espousing the 14 points but then not having the political will to actually back them up. Probably we simply have no 14 points and any states which do emerge will be based much more on historical provinces than anything else.

Of course, a 1912 TR presidency does in fact have the potential to butterfly the Second Balkan War and in turn the situation in Serbia and the outbreak of WWI so that it's very difficult to judge if there even is a Versailles ITTL.

How does TR in the White House butterfly the the Second Balkan war? Is he going to be the negotiator like he was in the Russo Japanese War.

Well, there's the general idea of the Butterfly effect in General which could lead to slightly different military situations in the Balkans, TR might offer to be a negotiator, other people might be killed who weren't OTL. Perhaps the better choice of words would have butterflies in the Second Balkan War which could effect exactly how a WWI style situation emerges, and certainly there's no guarentee of a Versailles style peace.

A different winner in 1912 US presidential election would not change the situation in the Balkins, unless TR successfully negotiates a peace treaty. I doubt he would be all that interested in events in the Balkins. Even if there is no Balkan War, Austria Hungary does not turn Bosnia over to Serbia. Therefore Franz Ferdiand still comes to Sarajevo and the Black Hand still wants to kill him.

Well keeping things very close to OTL till Versailles, big change are for Italy as Wilson basically throw out the London Treaty and begin negotiation anew between Italy and the Kingdom of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs about the borders.
Mantaining the treaty and a quick resolution of any negotiation (instead to last till the 20) can avert the sense of 'mutilated victory' so robbing the fascist of one argument, even better if the Fiume adventures of D'Annunzio is blocked
