Why this, and why the “bad pun” alert?

The pun is my nod to the British political roots of TLIADs. I chose this because I’d had it laying around like my other baseball TLIAWs and wanted to finish it. My other idea was too hard to get like the original.

What original?

One of my earliest TLs, from high school, had teams contract because salaries spiraled out of control but no real reason why they did. Even having free agency begin earlier and only contraction to 10 teams per league rather than 8, it wasn’t as plausible to get, say, enough players off of Detroit to keep them from winning in ’84, though the Cubs in ’86 was possible with them mostly replacing the Mets. Even then, though, the wrong teams were folding and the storyline didn’t’ work as well. It’s in story form here

If someone asks you the time do you tell them how to build a watch?

No, I don’t know how myself.

Ooookay. So, here Veeck moves the Browns to Milwaukee?

Yes, though a few other little things happen because of the actual POD that allows it, like Mays and Aaron switching teams.

Interesting. I wonder if people are bored by this simple interview style.

Well, there is a lack of logic since I’m you – or you’re me.

That’s true, so am I suddenly getting senile?

I’m not going to Egypt; how are you getting there?

No, not see Nile. You know, most of your readers likely heard that joke back in second grade or so. That’s not the really bad pun, is it?

No. that comes from the baseball setting and how in his early years sportscaster Chris Berman made puns out of lots of player names.

Oh, no, and the British political nod is…?

Given the political leanings of a number of this board’s members, I’m sure they’d enjoy hearing a broadcaster say, Margaret “If” Thatcher “Prime Minister, you’re in trouble.”

That pun was so bad it was good.

Thanks. Now, our feature.
