TLIAM: No Substitute For Victory

Grazie. Byrne, as I've said, has never been used afaik. A shame, since he is an interesting alternative to Kennedy or - as you say - Brown. If not for Byrne, I probably would've went for Carey.

And here's how I'm imagining the electoral map ITTL. MS, IN, and AL stick by Reagan, with Byrne underperforming in the west.

So it's Byrne 372 EV, Reagan 166 EV.

What were the popular vote totals?

Reagan having a 1977-1981 term and being slaughtered in the 1980 election is always AMAZING!!!!!!

Never heard of Brendan Byrne though, but seems you picked a rather obscure person.

I feel more than a little bereft I didn't discover this while it was in progress; waiting for the new updates of a good TL is nearly half the fun. The richness of texture and detail, the feel for characters, the reimagining of the timeline, the out-of-the-box yet also deeply thought-through twists (you're the uncrowned king of hipster presidents, turning up folks like Brendan Byrne), it's all just first class. Love the twists at the end as well (pondering Ronnie and his outlook and his health, we get Saddam Bush instead of Bandar Bush, Dolph Briscoe rides again which could be an interesting thing for party cohesion if Tecumseh rears his fateful head....) An absolute pleasure, as much or more than any of your vignettes (OK, Commie Romney has a certain je ne sais quoi, but this is even better.)
