My next plan is a GW2 Patton, but I don't like doing two of anything, so the double revolvers are putting me off

Oh, now that is just awesome. Not just the costumes, but your background props kick so much ass.

Please allow me to compliment you upon putting together a series of outfits that so neatly evoke a War Between the States waged by a Confederacy and a United States at a point in their History far more advanced than that at which they waged their Decisive Struggle in the course of Our Own Timeline - I shall doubtless quibble a little over details in some future post, but it seems only fair to end here by saluting your ingenuity in circumventing the limitations placed upon those trying to dress themselves for a Timeline that does not exist and has not insinuated itself into the mainstream of Popular Culture!:)

Couple of minor quibbles:
Dixie wore Khaki ("Butternut") and Brodie helmets (or was it Adrien)?.
It was the Yankees who wore Feldgrau ("Green-Gray") and German style Coascuttle helmets.

Still looks cool though. You got the weapons nailed.

I agree! The cut of these uniforms seems close to Perfect, on the whole, but colour was the only major quibble I had with these rather fine suits of clothes. I suspect that you know the appropriate colours better than I, but one has posted samples of the appropriate colours below for the sake of public record and for the purpose of comparison.

^BUTTERNUT, although this coat is so old the colour may be a trifle faded.^

^US Green Grey, which I imagine as rather different from the Wehrmacht field grey (much less grey for one thing!).^

The only other major suggestion I wished to advance was that your US Marine might be a little too 1890s for the Second Mexican War; my research indicates that a trapdoor Springfield is more likely than a bolt-action rifle (although there may be some leeway there) and that a kepi is much more likely than a field hat (one would also like to suggest that the gaiters might be white, rather than Khaki - alternatively you might prefer to wear thick socks pulled up over trousers, a feature that I've noted in a number of Civil War pictures and which would seem to fit the 1880s well enough).

A more minor suggestion was that a Texas cavalryman, especially one serving with the Army of Texas during the Great War, would probably forego that coat in favour of a shirtsleeve drill (rather like those troopers in pursuit of Pancho Villa at much the same time in Our Own History).

Everything else seems very on-point, especially given that those greyish Confederate Uniforms are more generally appropriate for an Alternate History Confederate States Army than the Turtledove-specific Butternut. I hope that you will forgive me for throwing in my penny's worth of suggestion and that you will not mistake my quibbles as an indication of anything but a specific interest in the Topic and a wish to contribute to your own already very excellent efforts.:)

Nice stuff, man! Got anything Canada-related, or are they just ordinary Tommies?

There's some indication that Canada in TL191 adopted distinctive elements of visual identidy much earlier then OTL. For example, the maple leaf roundel on canadian warplanes during the Great War (adopted in the late 40s OTL) and someone mentioning that quebec used some sort of fleur-de-lys strewn banner as a provincial flag before the invasion (whereas it only adopted one in 1948 OTL). This could mean that the canadian army in TL191 also adopted some elements that made it look different then the british army either some some adopted later OTL or different ones altogether.

It is mentioned at one point that a canadian captain is wearing 3 pips on his shoulder which is consistent with british style rank insignias although just like with some non-dominion members of the commonwealth in OTL, these pips might not be the order of the bath but something local or generic.

Hat wise, they might use a RCMP style stetson (though it would make them look very similar to New Zealand troops of that era) or yukon caps. Although the winter version with fur lining is the better known, a summer version without it was issued to canadian troops in Canada during WW2 but it proved unpopular and was abandoned. for an idea of what it looked like:

Another option being the ski cap:

What uniform did you use for the Roanaoake Front pictures? Swedish?

Edit: what uniform bits did you use in general? You've tickled my interest

Yes the tunic is a modified Swedish. The uniforms as a whole are made up of parts from various sources, some modified some completely homemade, just whatever fits in the mental image i'm trying to replicate. If you want to know any piece in particular just ask

I'm quite aware the cs in the books wore khaki, but that mean wearing essentially a british uniform with different insignia which is a bit pointless. Grey is iconic, and immediately puts the uniforms in an alternate timeline (much as Tiro said). I'm not sure what helmet you're looking at but i'm wearing a brodie.

you're right about the texas light horse uniform, it isn't exactly texas appropriate, but the uniform is a pun on the australian light horse of our tl. I've worn that in 38 degree summer day and it wasn't pleasant.

(As to the too-late US marine, well, I cheated a bit there. That's actually my boxer rebellion period outfit, I just shoehorned it into this post)

(i realise i'm replying to several different posters here, i'm too drugged up (prescription drugs sadly) to be more coherent)

I do hope that you will Get Well Soon and forgive us for pressing you with our own idea of things.

maybe butternut is for combat but grey is for walking out dress ?

Captain Remembrance ? Captain Union ?

For some reason I imagine "Sergeant Union" (since the local "Cap" is almost certainly a Socialist and "Sergeant" has more of a working-class ring than "Captain" although that may be the British Army influencing my thinking), although I can imagine another character called "General Strike" (who may or may not be a parody of the same).;)
