So I've been thinking about doing a timeline on doing a TL on Czechoslovakia staying together instead of splitting as they did in OTL. Based on my calculations (using historical polls and voting results), a referendum could've kept Czechoslovakia together. But that isn't the end, there were a lot of reasons why the country split (ethnic and lingual distinction, unequal division of power, economic factors, religiosity,etc.). What would be needed to prevent nationalism? How would the country work? What would be the effects of Czechoslovakia sticking together (Yugoslavia might play out differently)?
I need opinion, What do you think would need the happen to make the country stick together and what would it affect?
What do you think this country would be like and how would it do globally?
I'd like to start this TL before the Velvet Revolution and continue from there
Here's my basic outline:
Of course I have something much longer and it's much more complicated my head and the planning is still very rough so I'll take all the help I can get (especially with Presidents and prime ministers and other political figures).
Thoughts, ideas, questions?
Also I'd like some Title suggestions

Here's my basic outline:
- During the Revolution, a popular idea of Unity through diversity spreads through Czechs and Slovaks in a unified effort to overthrow their Communist government peacefully as they believe it is the only way to achieve democracy (am going to build on this concept from before the Revolution)
- After over a month of peaceful demonstrations, Gustav Husak resigns ans the Communist Party is no longer in power. Vaclav Havel (I'm thinking of some sort of nickname for him like "Father of Czechoslovakia" or something) is elected the new president
- The new post communist government is already faced with new problems such as calls for dissolution of the federation especially from the HZDS(much lower because of the aforementioned concept of Unity through Diversity" PS.any ideas for another name)
- After intense negotiations in Prague, Vaclav Havel and Vladimir Meciar decide to hold a referendum to see what the people want for Czechoslovakia (somewhere mid 1992)
- The people vote in favor for a stronger federation between the two constituent states (how would this work)
- The parliament meets in Prague to decide the terms. The terms assure unrivaled economic prosperity and equality, smoother ethnic relations, etc. (gonna need help on this one)
- A new constitution is put into place modeled after post communist countries such as Poland (this one is kind of shaky too)
- The new agreement leads the Slovak National Party (a pioneer in Slovakian independence) to lose power which greatly reduces Slovak nationalism and protests in Bratislava
- Some sort of terror attack (maybe from Slovak nationalists) sparks some Czechoslovak nationalist thing ensuring unity
- Czechoslovakia intervenes in to Yugoslav Wars (how?)
- Czechoslovak government supports immigration especially from refugees from Yugoslavia and other communist or post-communist countries. Repatriation of Sudeten Germans expelled after WWII and Czechoslovak national who fled from communist rule is also encourages along with immigration from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa
- Czechoslovakia joins the EU
- Czechoslovakia purchases the Zakarpattia Oblast from Ukraine (previously Subcarpathian Rus, part of Czechoslovakia) in order to return to its pre-WWII size (not sure about this one either but I do know that there were calls for annexation into Czechoslovakia after the fall of the Soviet Union, but failed because of Czechoslovakia's dissolution, might become part of Czechoslovakia to be more even with Czechia or might be autonomous)
Of course I have something much longer and it's much more complicated my head and the planning is still very rough so I'll take all the help I can get (especially with Presidents and prime ministers and other political figures).
