TL-191: The World After an Entente Victory in the Second Great War

I was wondering what would happen if the Entente won the Second Great War and what the world would look like. I've rationed the following:

The CSA just basically nukes the shit out of as many US cities and military formations as it can during the war, then afterward balkanizes the USA. Utah and Canada obviously become independent, Quebec is probably left alone but will soon become the focus of Anglo-Canadian irredentism. Maryland, New Mexico, Sequoyah, and Delaware are annexed to the CSA. Perhaps Missouri as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if bits of southern Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio are brought in, too. The CSA then begins focusing on building an empire in the Caribbean.

Germany is subjected to the Morgenthau Plan, only this time it's called the Churchill Plan or something. Balkanization occurs here also. France snags everything west of the Rhine that isn't Dutch and sets up a puppet state in south Germany, Britain sets up a puppet in northwestern Germany, and Russia does something with the east after grabbing the Prussias, Pomerania, and probably everything else east of the Oder.

Austria-Hungary falls to the same fate as it did in OTL. Same goes for the Ottomans, only they're probably divvied up along harsher lines.

Germany's African colonies and Eastern European client states are absorbed by France and Britain on the one hand, and the Russians on the other, respectively.

Japan is basically told it will be nuked unless it lays off the Brits in Southeast Asia. Perhaps they're recompensed with Hawaii and a few other formerly-American Pacific islands.

I dunno, I was bored and sort of threw this all together in a rather short time. What do people think of this (very rough) outline?

Well this probably should be in the media section, but I'll take a stab at it anyways. To be honest... that's a tough sell. A real tough sell.

So... your POD. Best one was given to us in the book. Featherston gives FitzBelmont everything he needs first time he asks in Return Engagement.

Now, throw in a butterfly... by the time the Confederates are attacking Pitsburgh and it's obvious things aren't going to work... Featherston listens to Forrest and pulls back and stands on the defensive since FitzBelmont will have made some progress by then and Featherston has an alternate weapon in which to make the US capitulate.

So... since the Confederates don't lose that army in Pitsburgh... they're able to fight an effective Ohio campaign... so during the course of the Grapple about all the US is going to accomplish is driving them out of Ohio, and maybe push into Kentucky. So the CS Industry is still very much a going concern.

At the end of the Grapple along with rockets, he probably will have his first nuke. Yes, that's longer from the POD to this point, than it was in Drive to the East to the point where they -did- use the bomb in In at the Death, but this one would be an actual full scale bomb and not a haphazard job like the one in the books.

So... I'm guessing New York or Chicago would be the logical target. The war's still very much up in the air, and you usually don't want to wipe out the enemy government wholesale so they -can- surrender. Another alternative would be for Potter to do his spy thing and smuggle a bomb near Hanover Washington... though that is a stretch to say the least. Skorzeny himself would have a hard time with that one.

Now.. shifting things over to Europe... Featherston likely helps out Britain on the bomb project, instead of the other way around. So... Britain's a bit better off when the nuclear exchange comes to Europe. More on that later though.

Now, back to America. I don't think even after the first bomb, they're going to surrender. So they're pushing into Kentucky with everything they got, Patton's probably defending ineffectually, but he does have enough men to counterattack and do a decent job of it so progress will be slow.

Slow enough the Confederates probably do explode a second bomb. Again, not Philadelphia, because Featherston wants LaFollete to surrender. He may well do it this time, depending on how close he is to his own bomb, and if Featherston's managed to sabotage their project. I'm going to say no though, as it's all stretch.

So.. I'd say the US target would be... Birmingham, that loss alone would severely hurt their war effort. So... now that the US has demonstrated equity, LaFollete offers the CS peace on 1914 borders in exchange for a regime change. Featherston makes another fiery speach about a 3rd bomb being imminent. He actually may have it too.

Forrest, with Potter's help this time, overthrows Featherston, appoints himself president and accepts LaFollete's terms. 1914 peace borders, democratic eleection within one year's time with US observers, de-Freedomization, Pinkard, Koenig and the rest still get tried, no repirations or demilitarization.

Now, in Europe... this is where it gets deadly with a near 1:1 exchange ratio with nukes. After Petrograd gets nuked, Britain responds against Hannover. Birmingham(Britain's) gets targetted in retaliation. Paris still gets nuked too. Britain strikes back against Essen. Germany hits London this time. Britain hits Berlin. And by this point, with the US and the CS signing a peace... I'd say the war would just... stall... in light of these casualties.

Russia may well surrender again, though France and Britain could probably get off with pre-war borders.

So with a nuclear US, CS, Britain, and Germany, with Japan, France and possibly Russia all jumping in soon... you set up the scene for a -very- interesting cold war.

This is a tough sell. Looking at the map from the era of the series. It seems like America just has to much to bring to bear for the Confederates to even hold their ground let alone gain ground. Maybe if earlier when the Confederate blitz was in effect. But not later when Germany and the US have the upper hand.

An interesting thought. If you can think of any point that could have tipped the scales in the CSA's favor I'd love to hear it.
