Timur in China?

At the time, the Ming Dynasty was under Zhu Di, perhaps one of the most capable leaders of China ever.

Besides, Genghis Khan didn't conquer China: his grandson Kublai did. I don't see Timur being a Genghis-analogy, first because Timur was already old when he wanted to conquer China, and would probably die before he succeeded, and second because his empire would probably collapse after his death as it did historically.

He wouldn't be able to invade China even if he tried - at least not without losing thousands of his men crossing the mountains of Tibet or the Central Asian arid plains.

Timur was allied with the Yuan remnant in Mongolia so does not need to cross Tibet or the Taklamakan.

Could we see some sort of Mughal-analogue dynasty in China?

I doubt it- it's not as if Timur set up the Mughal dynasty. He was a barbarian roug and through- all he did was pillage, he created nothing. The Mughals just happen to be his descendants (and descended from Genghis Khan in the maternal line).
