Time stands still: Theoretical election matchups

If time stood still and we could take Presidents and match them in a election with one another who would win?

1. Ronald Reagan vs Barack Obama

2. FDR vs Teddy Roosevelt

3. JFK vs. George W Bush

4. Richard Nixon vs Bill Clinton

There are many more plausible senarios but that's all I could think of now...and this is forum is after 1900 area so I think Abe Lincoln and George Washington are off limits or are they?

Depends on the running mates. Here's some scenarios for you.

(R): Ronald Reagan/ George H.W. Bush: 311 ECV, 53.3%
(D) Barack Obama/ Joe Biden: 227 ECV, 45.7%

Incumbent President: George W. Bush (R)
President-elect: Ronald Reagan (R)

(R): Richard M. Nixon/ Spiro T. Agnew: 277 ECV, 51.3%
(D) William J. Clinton/ Albert A. Gore: 261 ECV, 48.8%

Incumbent President: George W. Bush (R)
President-elect: Richard Nixon (R)

(D) John F. Kennedy/ Lyndon B. Johnson: 297 ECV, 50.6%
(R) George W. Bush/ Dick Cheney: 241 ECV, 49.2%

Incumbent President: John McCain (R)
President-elect: John Kennedy (D)

2. FDR vs Teddy Roosevelt

This looks like a close race between what.......they were 2nd cousins?

Theodore Roosevelt was widely popular but this was 25-30 years before the depression.

FDR had the Depression to deal with...

The question is how Theodore Roosevelt would deal with the Depression in an election matchup with FDR?

Nothing like shaking the dust off the Big Stick and starting a war to jump start the economy. :D

Not to mention his Job Security Act(Army conscription) bill would drasticly lower the unemployment rate? :p

Canada would be ripe for liberation:D

This really depends on whether we get hindsight or not. Do we know everything we know about them now, or do we only know what we knew at their first election (i.e. 1980 Reagan vs. 2008 Obama)? I think that Reagan beate Obama without too much trouble if we have hindsight. Without it, I still think Reagan wins, but it is much closer. I think that without hindsight, Teddy beats FDR because he is a better campaigner and a more magnetic speaker. With hindsight, FDR probably wins. Without hindsight, I think a JFK vs. GWB match is pretty close (I'd guess a slight victory for JFK, but it's basically a toss-up). With hindsight, it gets much more interesting. I think there are too many Bush-haters for him to win, but JFK would be hurt by all of the affairs. Still, Bush really can't win. As for Nixon-Clinton. Without hindsight, I think Nixon wins in a squeaker. With hindsight, Clinton wins as (ironically) the less corrupt of the two.

Oh, and as everyone else has already said, this belongs in ASB.

(With hindsight) there's absolutely no way Nixon could ever win. Against anyone.

Also, the posthumously sainted JFK would absolutely crush GWB, who would be the most unpopular president ever were it not for Nixon (or I guess Lincoln, who was elected on a plurality of the vote and whose victory caused half the country to secede, but then they didn't have public opinion polls back then).

I think 600,000 dead Americans is a pretty decisive public opinion poll, if you catch my drift.

The JFK-Bush matchup would be interesting for Texas; putting Lyndon Johnson against George W Bush. Albiet Bush would win as he's the presidential candidate. But in a presidential matchup, Johnson crushes Bush as he has much more experience and seniority....
