This may be a pretty odd and may be challenging topic to question with as this isn’t a topic normally discussed, but what if the Tibetan Empire never faced its impeding Era of Fragmentation and managed to absorb surrounding states (perhaps a bit of the North Indian kingdoms, probably Uyghurs, etc.), take hold of the Western Protectorate and the Tarim basin, and survives onto the medieval era? How will this impact Asia, and maybe even Europe? Will it even perhaps grow to challenge the Chinese dynasties?
Also, to anyone who doesn’t know about the Tibetan Empire, I highly recommend reading the history about it. Its unique location and doses of Bhuddism and foregin contact and its shrouded pieces of history just makes it perfect. Great TL potential here, though I am too lazy to write one.
