Through a Glass, Divided.
A History of Bretland. Part One.
The history of Bretland, a vital part of the Dual Monarchy, goes back to ancient times, but Bretland properly started when Cnut conquered England, a Saksisk Kingdom (1) in 1015 AD. This led to the growth of a hybrid of Saksisk and Scandinavian culture in what is now known as Ensk, or the culture of the Enskers. The languages merged too, to form Ensker, a samrun language (2). This conquest was later threatened by some Saksisk rebels, but the Norska armies managed to squash the rebels.
Skotland, Kambri and Irland were the Celt Kingdoms. Skotland was the weakest of them all. Irland had the advantage of being on an island. On first glance, Kambri may be seen as the weakest of them, but it had the most centralization of them all, started by a Glorious King whose name was lost to History. Those lands were slowly gained by the Norska-Ensk by war (Skotland), inheritance (Irland), or being inherited by (Kambri).
The loss of Danmork by the Fifty Years’ War between the Norska-Esk and the Swensk from 1381 to 1436 meant that, for once, the successors of Cnut would have to focus on the Vinlandic colonies and the Atlantic. This was a big step for the Bretlanders, one that would forge their destiny, and lead to a large Empire, and eventually a great socialist power.
(1) Saksisk means Saxons.
(2) Samrun, meaning merge, takes the place of creole.
