Three-Way War in World War One

An idea that just popped-up in my head...
What if United States, Japan, and Italy, instead of joining either Entente or Central Powers, decide to take advantages of the state of war between the two, form their own "league", and declare war on both?
United States will take Canada and British/French colonies in the Americas, without even land any troops in European soil. Japan will take British, French, and German colonies in the Far East, while Italy attack both France and Austria-Hungary, taking Nice, Savoy, Corsica, Tunisia, Trieste, Istria, Zara, and Dalmatia, while they're busy with Germany and Russia.

Is this ASB?

you would need a really good reason for them to do that, as they would defiantly end the war with no friends in the world, and an alliance which would be difficult to aid other members

How do you make America a non-Isolationist nation is a key issue here. The US was willing to do whatever it wanted on the American Continent, but beyond that, it didn't feel like it had a concern. That's why it took direct threats a provocations to get us into either World War.

I don't know an impetus for this odd alliance that could come about, though. Or why it would twirl its mustache for its chance to strike.

Even if that league was possible, How In The Hell is Italy suppose to do that much when they could barely starve off an Austrian invasion in OTL?

Alright...maybe this isn't an alliance per se, but let's say the war is extended to 1919 or 1920, with USA, Italy, and Japan unwilling to help either side. Finally, sheer exhaustion and internal unrest of both Entente and CP prompted USA, Italy, and Japan to strike them all at their weakest conditions...

They'd still need a reason to attack both sides.

ASB.

You really want a three-way Great war? Have the war drag on into the 20's, and a victorious Red Russia reenter with the intention of spreading revolution by force.
Usually some sort of alliance of convenience would emerge, but for a situation like this, I'm imaging almost total German control of central Europe after the collapse of AH, which IMO probably means the military are calling the shots now.
Add this to a similar situation in France, and maybe even Britain and you've got western Europe made up of highly Conservative, nationalist governments that won't stop fighting each other because they now that the other side will only accept unconditional surrender.
