Three Green Stars Flying Over Nazareth
An Alternate History of the Fourth Arab-Israeli War

Syrian jets flying over the occupied Israeli North District

The Fourth Arab-Israeli War, as it is known in most Western nations, is one of the most stunning conflicts in modern history. Known in Arab nations as “The Ramadan Triumph” and in Israel as the “Yom Kippur War”, this war marked a decisive paradigm shift in the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict. While many historians would point to the newly-arrived American tanks utilized by the Egyptians during the war, or the excellently-executed Syrian North District Offensive as the war’s deciding factor, I will instead look at two events which occurred three years before the war—two events which, I believe, led to the Arab Coalition’s crushing victory over the Israelis. Firstly, Gamal Abdel Nasser’s death on September 3, 1970, and Anwar Sadat’s subsequent assuming of the Presidency. Secondly, the Jordanian decision, made under pressure from both Sadat’s Egypt and Syria, not to disarm the Palestinian Liberation Organization in that same month. (1) Both of these events ended Egypt’s ultranationalist stance (which had crippled it for years)(2), brought these three Arab nations closer together, and kept the PLO as a strong paramilitary organization which would eventually help crush the Israeli army in the war of '73.

. . .
Notes:
(1) Our dual POD. Nasser dies about twenty days earlier and Sadat’s pressure on Jordan not to disarm the PLO, combined with Syrian pressure, allows them to stay as a coherent, strong fighting force.
(2) Whatever you say about Nasser, you can’t disagree that his ultranationalist stance crippled Egypt in international politics.

Okay, so, I've been a lurker around here for a pretty long time. Just got myself an account. This is my first TL so go easy on me!
