Thoughts on coup attempt in North Korea following Kim Jong-un’s ascension to head of state?

Let’s say that following the death of Kim Jong-il in December 2011, elements within the North Korean government work against the rise of Kim Jong-un as head of state; consequently, factions arise within the central government including supporters of the Kim dynasty, supporters of a military junta, and those advocating for a North Korean version of glasnost and perestroika. Several factors to discuss are the loyalties of the army and state security forces, the ownership of the country’s nuclear weapons, and the involvement of the civilian population in what could possibly escalate into a civil war.

I've wondered how widespread popular support for the ruling dynasty is among the general population. If they've got a lot of support(even just as a result of people swallowing the propaganda), it might be hard for the coup-plotters to remove the clan from power, especially in a way that involves violence. If they wanted to give the Kims the Romanov or even just the Ceaucescu treatment, they might have to find a way to keep that secret from the public.

I think a soft-touch, Zimbabwe 2017 style coup might be the best option. Basically, a high-pressure retirement.
