Thought Experiment: Stalemate After Stalemate

I know separately it has been asked, What if WW1 or WW2 ended in a stalemate, but I am curious if WW1 ended in Stalemate, it would sow seeds for another World War that is much more extream than WW2 in our timeline.

So my question is, What if WW1 and WW2 ended both in stalemates? How could this all happen, and what kind of world would we see coming to be after two World Wars that were dead-end conflicts?

Whet kind of stalemate would a WW 2 after butterflies entail ?
A pacifist public opinion which cannot stomach more than a few thousand deaths and makes the governments back down;
Complete exhaistion with industry destroyed and generations of soldiers hurt or killed;
Or MAD with most of the combatants destroyed by nuclear and/or chemical weapons ?
