Those crazy bourbons...

Just a curious idea that I've been toying with as of late for inclusion in a TL I'm working on...

In the 1670s (before his betrothal to Maria Anna Victoria of Bavaria), there were rumors that King Louis XIV planned to have the Grand Dauphin wed his first cousin, Marie-Louise d'Orléans (Monsieur's ill-fated daughter, who later married the unfortunate Carlos II of Spain).

Now, just to throw in yet another monkey wrench, let's assume that Madame Royale survives to adulthood--her mother was very keen on the idea of the girl wedding her dear 'Uncle Carlos'--and as the highest ranked daughter of France, it would be her duty to do so in the grand tradition of her fore-mothers, assuming the brief Franco-Spanish peace is signed around the same time (and we can be sure it most likely will).

So, this means that there are no immanent obstacles to Marie-Louise becoming dauphine. After all, given the sentiments of most of the House of Bourbon at the time, what could be more perfect than a French princess wedding the heir to the French throne?

What are the effects of this? I'm not sure how major they could be, but I figure it's worth a shot at discussion...

The Dauphin's Bavarian wife OTL was often ill and would not attend court receptions; this made Louis XIV begin to dislike her after awhile, as he believed her to be shirking her duties as Dauphine. I believe Louis XIV was close to his niece, that is an anecdote that goes something that this:

"I could not have done more for my own daughter."
"Yes, sire, but you could have done more for your niece."

Regarding her marriage to Carlos II. The marriage of the Orleans princess to the Dauphin creates a generation of Bourbons that are connected to both families; is it possible that down the line a split between the two branches does not occur (such as what happened almost a hundred years later, when the Duke of Orléans voted for the death of Louis XVI?)

I don't have much to say on Madame Royale surviving, since she died so young we have no idea how she might end up. The Grand Dauphin was very meek and terrified by his father, believing himself not good enough compared to his father. I imagine Louis XIV might spoil his only daughter, which I imagine creating a girl who is indulged her every whim and turns out awful. Imagine Maria Anna of Pfalz-Neuburg, just a little bit worse. I can see her dominating poor Carlos II by feigning pregnanies, and arguing with the Dowager of the time, Mariana of Austria. The new Queen of Spain's father would be the strongest man in the Christendom, it would be very interesting to see, I think, but that's just me.

Interesting enough, the Madame Royale could have a claim to the Spanish throne after her husband Charles II dies, as she was a daughter of Maria Teresa of Spain. Imagine this spoiled girl turning into an ambitious woman, who needs to spend her life with a deformed husband and, when he dies, she can actually hold the power of the country.
