I don't know much about Thorium reactors but there seems to be a couple of advantages over Uranium, a big one being is weapons proliferation resistance since it doesn't produce lots of plutonium as waste or require Uranium enrichment.

So WI, despite the technical hurdles, Thorium reactors were pushed politically as a way to increase compliance with the NPT? Where would we be now? Would nuclear proliferation be such a problem now if there were less Uranium reactors and more Thorium reactors around the world? I've read that Thorium reactors can use waste from Uranium reactors as part of their cycles, so would we have less of a waste problem if Thorium reactors were much more common?
