Thomas Wolsey

Anne Boleyn had something to do with his fall. WI: Henry had had a surviving son by Catherine. What would Wolsey's career been like in that scenario?

Interesting question. He was already pretty old by the time of his downfall, so in an ATL he might not have lived that much longer. His reputation would certainly be better. He actually had some pretty positive achievements as an administrator, like introducing a system of progressive taxation in England. He was a patron of learning and architecture, so he might be better known for those things than he seems to be IOTL. I think he founded a college at one of the universities, and in an ATL it might be named for him after his death.

hey el t, may i suggest putting the full question on the title of your posts (e.g. "Henry viii has son with catherine boleyn: what happens to wosley?", "Wosley's fall averted; what now?", "WI: Wosley Survives")? Cheers.

as for this one, dunno really not my area, sorry.

hm at the time of his death the cardinal was 57, which was pretty old in the 1530s, so even with out the stress of his fall, Wolsey would likely only live 4 more years on the outside, the upside of the Cardinal is rather than being lost under the historical waves of Henry's Great Matter Wolsey goes down in history as a kind of English Cardinal Richelieu, and a father of English higher education and his House at Hampton Court Palace and his tomb at Windsor would stand the test of time

now no Great Matter might mean Wolsey is able to do other things, maybe even become the Pope
