This Land Will Surely Vote For Me-an election timeline

Our small POD: Paul Wellstone survives the plane crash (note: this won't actually mean much).

And some switched election results; Democrats hold on to the Senate and gubernatorial elections in Georgia, while the Republicans pick up a Senate seat in South Dakota (John Thune beats Tim Johnson). The balance of power in the Senate is 50-50, with Dick Cheney providing nominal GOP control with a tiebreaker vote. Only one of these elections will actually mean anything in the timeline. Now, let's fast forward.
JANUARY 19th, 2004-IOWA DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS

Howard Dean-34% (30 delegates)
John Edwards-30% (10 delegates)
John Kerry-24% (5 delegates)
Dick Gephardt-9%

Others-1%

"Just one year ago, we weren't even thought about. We would have given anything for even 5, 10% of the vote. Now, look where we are. *thunderous applause*. We've made it, we've won Iowa, and now it's onto New Hampshire. And not only are we taking New Hampshire, but we're gonna win South Carolina, and Oklahoma, and Arizona, and North Dakota, and New Mexico! And then we're gonna focus to change Washington, to take back the White House! (notable absence of screech)
"

I see Dean did not insult the Iowa caucus here like I remember him doing back then. That's the moment him winning Iowa basically became impossible if I remember things correctly.

The "Dean machine" steamrolled into New Hampshire, defeating Senator John
Kerry (D-MA) with 36% of the vote to Kerry's 28%. However, Kerry, despite
losing the state he hoped to start up his campaign, remained confident.
He had unveiled a new "Western Strategy", hoping to tap into what he had
seen as a goldmine. Edwards, meanwhile, had his own plan.

"They think that, just because we haven't won a race yet, that it's all over.
Well, it ain't true. Dean's won 2 states out of 50. We got the South, we
can get the Rustbelt, and we can still win this thing. Then, it's time to send
president back to Crawford!"
