Welcome to the United States of America
  • It's worth dreaming what wasn't, to forget what was.

Tons of ideas, and little time to make them. Stories you'd like to explore but don't achieve your goals.
There are several alternative stories I have in planning. Although only one I am currently developing but I already have the basis of AH and therefore do not need to expose it here.

As I develop that AH, I would like to open this thread to explore the plausibility of another of my alternative stories that is on hold, looking at some points like the system of government, armed forces, society, etc.

I will make some clarifications. As I said, alternative history is currently paused. It doesn't have a POD defined enough to avoid the ASB. Details are also missing. But I can still take some licenses so as not to clarify some details,

Each Chapter will deal with some topic related to alternative history, for example one chapter would explain the semi-presidential system of the United States, another would deal with languages, etc. It is likely that there are some contradictions between chapters but that would be to adjust a part that I did not see.

In short, each chapter can be interpreted as being almost independent of the previous or the next.
Although there may be further clarifications, some things could be kept as OTL, in the form of an artistic license.

That's all for now... and I'll leave you with the following map.

Chapter 0: The United States of America
  • (Missing details and clarifications but this is the presentation of the country. Thank you for your comments. )

    United States of America
(in spanish: Estados Unidos de América; in french: États-Unis d'Amérique ) is a sovereign country constituted as a constitutional federal republic. The country encompasses the entire area of North America - including the Greater Antilles, the Lesser Antilles, located between the Arctic, Pacific and Atlantic oceans, bordering Colombia in the south, separated from Russia to the west by the Bering Strait. It also includes the state of Hawaii being the only one of its states that are not in the American continent. The country has several territories in Africa, Asia and Oceania that have the category of Associated Free States. With more than 24.70 million km² and more than 590 million inhabitants, the country is the first largest in total area, the second largest in contiguous area and the third in population. It is one of the nations with the greatest diversity of ethnicities, cultures and languages, with Spanish, French and English being the official languages of the country at the national level.

It is the world's largest national economy in nominal terms, with an estimated GDP of $25.7 trillion (a quarter of nominal global GDP) and a fifth of global GDP in purchasing power parity. The country is the main capitalist force on the planet, as well as being a leader in scientific research and technological innovation since the 19th century, and since the beginning of the 20th century, the main industrial country. In GDP PPS, the U.S. is the first largest economy.

These Amerindian peoples have inhabited the continental United States for thousands of years. This Amerindian population was reduced by disease and war after the first contact with Europeans. The United States was originally founded by thirteen British colonies, along the Atlantic coast and later joined the colonies of Quebec and New Spain. On July 4, 1776, they issued the Declaration of Independence, which proclaimed their right to self-determination and the establishment of a cooperative union. The rebellious states defeated the British and Spanish Empires in the War of Independence, the first successful colonial war of independence. The U.S. Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1789; its ratification the following year made the states part of a single republic with a strong central government. The Bill of Rights, comprising ten constitutional amendments guaranteeing many fundamental civil rights and freedoms, was ratified in 1791.

From the late 18th century to the early 20th century, the United States acquired territories from France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Colombia, Russia, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Japan, in addition to annexing the Kingdom of Hawaii. By the 1890s, the national economy was the largest in the world with the American War and the Great War confirming its status as a military power. In the 1940s, it emerged as the first nuclear-armed country to become one of the world's three superpowers. The country accounts for two quarters of world military spending and is a leading economic, political and cultural force in the world.

    Chapter 1: The letter
  • Our country is strange and unique. A great diversity of languages and cultures but all united under one constitution.
Since childhood we are taught to learn another language besides our mother tongue. If I am a French speaker, we can choose Spanish or English or both, although there is also the option of choosing a minority language such as Dutch or Zapotec.

Our grandparents and our parents grew up reading books or watching television and being able to watch it in their native language without knowing English which is the standard language when a film or a programme is produced and then translated into other national languages. This is because our 9th Amendment to the Constitution provides for it.
We can walk the streets without fear of strong and widespread discrimination because of our beliefs, our languages or our color, although there have been unfortunate incidents.

Every corner of the country is unique and unmatched, New York with its skyscrapers, Mexico City with its beautiful attractions, Havana with its streets and picturesque buildings. The Caribbean with its beautiful beaches, and Greenland with its eternal walks in the snow and ice. Did I mention the great Panama Canal?

Our economy has remained stable over the years and was able to withstand the global economic crisis of 2000 thanks to the reforms made in previous decades.
Our choices are different from other countries. With the 1900 reform, the system of government is governed under a semi-presidential system where the President (Head of State) and the First Secretary (Head of Government) are elected by a specific election.

Oh, and the endless days on Capitol Hill, with our senators and representatives of the four major political parties engaging in consensus and discussions on the country's laws. I am not saying that they are perfect, they have had their controversies but they have not gone to the extreme of being polarized as has happened in other nations.

Our Armed Forces are made up of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, National Guard, Coast Guard and Border Guard. They are the largest combined Armed Forces in the world in most fields.
It's true what they say, in every city and town, there is at least one radio station and one newspaper company. And that every city and town can watch any of the 8 national television networks on open television unlike other nations where some TV channel is not seen in a town.

Oh, and the television programming is adapted to our area, in Quebec we watch Star Trek Voyager in French, while in Atlanta they watch it in English and in Guadalajara they watch it in Spanish all at the same time. But the live programming is a little different, because depending on the area, the Spanish version of "Buenos Días América" is hosted by Galilea Montijo while in English it's hosted by Diane Sawyer and in French it's hosted by Denise Bourgoin.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if the events that formed this nation had never happened. Other times I am glad that all this has happened.
It was nice talking to you my good friend, I hope one day we will meet, greetings to your family in Paris. Sincerely, your good friend Clark Kent Montebourg 5 May 2019.

Chapter 2: The day of the union
  • Mexico City
    Palacio Nacional
    15 September 1789

Jean-Jacques Dessalines was in one of the rooms of the National Palace. Dessalines was the representative of Saint-Domingue which became independent from France months before, he was meeting with the other representatives of the nations which became independent from the European empires.
There was uncertainty about what would happen to these nations but Thomas Jefferson proposed a union or alliance between all the nations to avoid European invasions. In a few hours he would start the first of several meetings where the future of these nations would be decided if they joined the newly formed United States or formed an alliance together. But it was clear to Dessalines that the issue of slavery could be very difficult to decide.

    Chapter 3: A big jump
  • Mare Tranquillitatis, Moon
    4 July 1969

I still remember when I lived in Wapakoneta, at the age of five I was taken to Warren, Ohio and had an experience I have not forgotten when I flew in a Cuauhtemoc Three-Engine, plane nicknamed Tin Goose. From that day on my purpose was to fly to the top.

Well, let's go back to the present. It was 9:37 a.m. on July 4, 1969, the day our country celebrated its independence. And in space was Apollo 11 going where no one has gone before. We were preparing to land in the Sea of Tranquility and fulfill our people's dream. My colleague Malcolm Little was happy to be part of this mission and was going to be with me, the first humans to set foot on the moon.

The ship began to land in an area of the Sea of Tranquility, when we checked that everything was in order. I prepared to go down the hatch knowing that everyone was watching and hearing us. When I took the first step, I said a phrase that still remains: This is a small step for men and women, a great leap for mankind.

Later, we received a call from President John F. Kennedy who congratulated us on this great feat.

Before we finished our mission, we observed the Russian space probe Luna 5 falling into the horizon until it disappeared. Due to some hills, we did not see if it fell close or farther away and only saw dust rising.
When we arrived in New York City, there was euphoria in every street about the success of the space mission. Not much happened when Apollo 12 was launched carrying Jane Briggs Hart who would be the second woman in space and the first woman to set foot on the moon.

How many leagues does the United States have? What are the most popular sports in the country? How many teams have each league? How do sports organizations work?
These are typical questions asked daily by sports enthusiasts.

It all begins in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when major sports leagues were just beginning to develop.

By the 1870s and 1880s, several sports leagues focused on baseball were founded in various parts of the country, such as the California League, the Cuban League and the Florida League. It wasn't until the 1900s that all the leagues merged to form the Major League Baseball, initially consisting of 16 teams, one or two from each sports league. For a few decades it would be the most popular sport nationally but would face competition from the NFL, MLS and NBA.

From 1910 to 1980, the league would begin to expand to 32 teams today and would be relegated to the Minor League Baseball comprised of the Second Baseball League, the Third Baseball League and the regional baseball leagues.
As baseball expanded, the National Football League was created in 1920 with 12 teams. The NFL would have an expansion similar to MLB ending with 32 teams in 1992. It also has the NFL Second Division.

In the 1940s the current National Basketball Association was founded at first with 16 teams expanding to 32 in 1980, the NBA had established itself in a system of league divisions with the NBA being the top division, following the American Basketball Association second division with 32 teams, the Columbia Basketball Association third category with 64 teams and finally the regional leagues.

It wasn't until the 1950s that Major League Soccer was founded, consisting of several regional sports leagues. It was initially made up of 20 teams expanding to 32 teams in 1980 and established a system of relegation and promotion. It is one of the most popular leagues in the country, along with the NFL.

The National Hockey League was founded in 1922 with 8 teams and currently consists of 32 teams, is the fifth most popular sports league in the country. It also has a promotion and relegation system.
All sports leagues, although they have specific rules, are governed by the Sports Law (known by most people) which has established a set of rules that leagues, teams and radio and television stations must follow.

For example, teams are required to translate their rules into national and local languages. The same applies to radio and TV stations that must show a sports broadcast in the majority languages of each region and must not restrict sports broadcasting to one region for any reason.

In addition, there is an obligation for TV stations that must broadcast a sports event from each league on a weekly basis for the duration of the sports season. This was due to the 1977 controversy that caused protests among fans because no open television station broadcast the NHL final.

There have been attempts to eliminate this law but it has been deemed unconstitutional because it contradicts the Rights of Citizens.
This is the reason for the controversy between FIFA and the USSF over sports broadcasting rights. While the USSF redirects a certain broadcast to one or more open TV channels that request it, FIFA opposes it for various reasons but many have accused FIFA of only being interested in the economic as they do in other countries where only one or two channels are allowed to broadcast a certain event. This controversy is the same as for the Olympic Games.
There are no agreements yet and it is likely to continue for the next few months before the 2018 World Cup.

    Chapter 7:
  • 27 May 2019
    Unknown
    Guadalajara, Jalisco

Antoine Beckett Robles is a great fan of television series, especially the great universe called USAverse or FBIverse where there were currently 15 television series in progress and in a few hours would start the largest crossover in the history of the channel and all American television far surpassing the crossover of the superhero multiverse "Big Herosverse" broadcast last year on NBC.

15 series, 15 hours, for three weeks where each series will have a main or secondary participation in the crossover called "Crisis of the century" and where it is speculated that the main characters that appeared years before will appear.

While the main trends were about this crossover and there was a euphoria. The other TV channels were hoping not to suffer from rating during this period.

While Antoine waited, they reviewed the trends in social networks and the perhaps exaggerated euphoria of some people..

Transcript in a social network post.

    Series of TV:
FBI: Chicago (Seasons: 16 ): Formerly known as FBI, it is one of the two original series of the fbiverse, it deals with FBI agent Calleigh Duquesne with autobiographical memory and skills that help her solve the cases that arise. The protagonist has a shady past that make her face anyone who prevents justice including the CIA.
FBI: DC (Seasons: 11 ): follows a group of FBI agents commanded by Tobias Fornell who has a connection with Gibbs.
FBI: Texas (Seasons: 6 ): is a direct spin-off from The Mentalist series where Patrick Jane, Theresa Lisbon and Kimball Cho continue to solve cases now in Texas with the FBI. Similar to OTL except that many events are very different.
Chicago Fire (Seasons: 7 ): Similar to OTL
Chicago PD (Seasons: 11 ): The series describes the daily lives of several uniformed police officers and members of the criminal intelligence unit assigned to Chicago Police Department District 21.
Chicago MED (Seasons: 14 ): A mixture of the Grey Anatomy series and the OTL series of the same name. One of the main protagonists still unnamed has a connection to Calleigh Duquesne.
Chicago Legal (Seasons: 10 ): A version similar to The Good Wife but with many differences. With Alicia Florrick resuming her career as a lawyer. Florrick has a connection to Calleigh Duquesne's past.
NCIS (Seasons: 16 ): One of the two original fbiverse series, it follows federal agents of the Major Case Response Team led by Leroy Jethro Gibbs. It would be similar to their OTL version with some differences.
NCIS: LA (Seasons: 10 ): It would be similar to its OTL version with some differences.
NCIS: NO (Seasons: 5 ): It would be similar to its OTL version with some differences.
NY Police (Seasons: 14 ): follows a group of New York police officers. Its protagonists are Elizabeth Keen and Donald Ressler, who from day one have maintained a great rivalry and the latter has a dark past to reveal itself.
NY MED (Seasons: 9 ): Possibly it would be similar to the sister series Chicago MED, I still don't have those who would star in it.
NY Justice (Seasons: 9 ): If Chicago Legal is about defense lawyers, NY Justice shows the cases from the prosecutors' side. No clear protaginists.
Covert Affairs (Seasons: 6 ): It deals with a group of CIA spies where one of their members has a connection with Calleigh Duquesne and causes friction afterwards.
The White House (Seasons: 3 ): Years after being the governor of Illinois, the now president faces scandals, crises and family problems in the world of politics. He has a strong connection to Calleigh Duquesne.
