This Europe in 1900?

What would have had to happen for Europe to look like this by 1900?

I'm guessing The Colours show alliances. We have sterotypical "Germanics" versus sterotypical "Mediterrainians"... interesting. And Germany's borders looks attractive Somehow.

Germany's borders are different in that it has Bohemia. Which would give Germany a few million Czechs.

Turkey(Ottoman Empire) has Bosnia back and the Dalmatian coast along with Montenegro.

The colors don't mean anything I've taken the Template from Matthew Whites homepage. I didn't really think of a time-line I just made the map.

Guess it could be something like Prussia takes Bohemia as a prize after the Austro-Prussian War later the German states unify in a similar manner (sans the border with France similar Franco-Prussian war)

Serbia still breaks away but Austria rather than Turkey is Europe's sick man.

The Austrians have a revolt in their country sometime after 1878 Austrians leave the Province. Turkey sends in troops to reclaim the area Montenegro tries to take advantage of the situtation for territorial gains and clashes with Turkey. Turkey reclaims Bosnia and annexes Montenegro, the Dalmatian coast is ceeded to Turkey-say Turkey and Austria have a war during this which they loose to Turkey.

Something like that.

BTW here's a link unedited template.

If Prince Esterhazy accepts the crown of Hungary from Napoleon I in 1809 then you could see butterflies work their way out eventually into something like this map

The loss of Hungary would weaken the Habsburgs

If we assume Napoleon I eventually over-stretches himself and falls, then we could end up with Austria fighting to regain Tyrol as a priority and Hungary when Esterhazy's regime collapses in the wake of Napoleon

Walk down the alleyways of the 19th century, and we could see Bohemia having been spun off from Austria perhaps gravitate Germanically, and the Ottomans hold onto most of the Balkans since the Habsburg energies have all been directed at getting some of their lost provinces back

Maybe an analogue of 1848 (doesnt have to be that year) sees a united federal Germany which includes Bohemia, since it is separate from Austria and including it does not go down the road of bringing the rest of the Habsburg dominions in its wake

Best Regards

Portugal is not allied with the UK but allied with Spain and France, so something very bad happened there... maybe a personal union with one of these (and the obvious civil war that would follow...) or maybe Portugal was invaded by France in the Napoleonic wars and the old kings deposed?

Or you just need that episode of the "Pink Map" and the issue of the African colonies going worse.

All the grey countries are neutral including Spain-although when an inevitable war breaks out Spain like any other "neutral" nation could go one way or the other depending on the gains. 'Sides the Swiss they are the unchangeable.

Not sure how to have Montenegro back within the Turkish Empire.

And in TTL a member of the House of Osman is visiting Bosnia in 1914 when a young Serb nationalist assassinates him. The Ottomans blame Serbia...

I'm going to guess that the writings of Namik Kemal drove the Ottomans to revolution (and probably incorporated the Arabs' demand for a dual-monarchy like the Austrians have)
