The world without Historiography

I mean as long as there's a human tendency towards self reflection it's only a matter of time until you have historians getting meta about their shit
 
Hmmm, I’d argue that historiography is sort of inevitable but I do think that it could have developed massively differently.

For example, for Western historiography, what if Herodotus never existed? That would have massive repercussions, right?

Agreed. Even the Romans and Greek historians liked to question earlier sources and criticize their accuracy and even Herodotus seems to have been pretty selective on his indirect sources. I'd say historiography is absolutely inevitable.
