The World without Chernobyl

What if the test at Chernobyl Block 4 was aborted when the staff noticed that the reactor is starting to lose too much energy too fast? In short, no nuclear meltdown. Then what? What are the repercussions for the Soviet Union and nuclear energy?

The fall of the Soviet Union wasn't caused by a singular event; such processes always start a decade in advance, or more. It wouldn't have affected the Soviet Union in any direct way, nor would it increase the time the spirit of communism wandered in Europe.

It would have greatly affected the world's stance on nuclear power, to the point environmentalists could become proponents (It does not pollute the air and such).

The fall of the Soviet Union wasn't caused by a single event, yes, but there is no way that you can say that Chernobyl didn't affect the fall of the Soviet Union. If Chernobyl didn't happen, anti-Soviet forces might have taken a little while longer to go into action, or other butterflies could happen which could lead to the passing of the New Union Treaty establishing the Union of Sovereign Republics.
