The World War I Mega-Thread

Most AH stories revolve around the Central Powers winning World War I and doing stuff. The first question I have is this:

Could the war end in a neutral peace treaty? Returning to the status quo, with no real winners or losers? What's the likelyhood of this? I thought this up because the German defeat in WWI led to WWII through the rise of Nazism and Nationalism, and an Allied defeat may have the same outcome.

The second question is this:

How far might a victorious CP go without getting too ASB? My favorite bit of AH is the mod Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkreig. Many seem to have the idea that Germany would conquer Europe like Hitler wanted to do in World War II. The problem is that the WWI German leadership was smarter than the Nazi leadership during WWII. It's likely they'd just create a buffer zone of puppet states in-between Germany and Russia, A-H may annex Serbia or create a puppet state or something, etc.

Basically, I'd like this thread to be a general debate thread about World War I.

There were several points in the war when it seemed that neither side was going to win. A status quo isn't the most logical option for several reasons. A military stalemate may work. The OE loses most of its non-Anatolian/Thracian land, and Germany loses its colonies. Russian Poland and the Baltic states are given independence as German satellites, as do the Low Countries. Serbia and Romania would end up A-H satellites, if A-H didn't collapse, as it was expected to OTL.

Well, if there's going to be a compromise peace 1916 is always a good time, everything bogged down, Karl new to the Austrian throne, his peace iniatives using his Bourbon-Parma relatives etc

Of course, there can't be too many territorial changes if its 1916, which is a problem

So, 1918 is more useful for this but less easy to see how a compromise peace can be arranged

My mind just went blank and emptied of all I was going to say...

How about if German win the war, but not conquering teritority instead they still able to maintain the teritority in west and Brest-Litovsk teritority agreements. So the war is like draw..

Well, it could be seen as a draw...except that in NOT winning there would be substantial elements by 1918 in Britain and France who would view it as a defeat

That is basically the plot of The Restless Twenties/The Terrible Thirties that I am writing

I guess a German announcement of no annexations, no reparations might work, and combine that with new puppet states in the East plus a general war-weariness in the West.

For that, though, you'd probably need to EXTEND the war, say into 1919, maybe have the Kaiser abdicate and Wilhelm III work with the SPD towards ending the war with Germany still militarily on the upper foot
