The World Does Repeats Itself All Over Again

Imperial Potrait of Császár Miklós I. Magyarország(1)

Biatorbagy, Kingdom of Hungary, 24 October 1920

The Kaiser's defeat during the first world war essentially sent those who put themselves in a league with him into a pit of destruction. With Germany facing the NSDAP as its possible, would-be master, the dual monarchy's inevitable end, and the death of the sublime state, those who were tied to the old central powers met their end. For Hungary, things grew incredibly worse, even far more worser than Austria, when the nation was shaken by Bela Kun's ambition, and the little entente's desire to further decapitate the Hungarian nation. Things, initially stabilizes and takes a turn for the best, before Admiral Horthy's rule was once again challenged by the return of Charles, the first of Austria, and the fourth of Hungary-seeking to reclaim what he claimed should be his. To become a king, Charles initially shook the regent with mere words, and just by few months, Charles believed that blood is the only way to restore the nation's glory under his rule. Horthy was fueled by reversing Trianon, while Charles's actual desire is yet still be seen. Allowing him to rule Hungary are a deathwish, while ignoring him eventually led into this mini-war of his, and Horthy.

Now, both men(POD) are faced face-to face on Charles's royal train, with this very meeting being Horthy's personal request. Horthy, is tired, and so does Charles. With the talks promised safety for Charles's side, things might eventually began to end in a much greater light, before Antal Lehar screams for a "last stand" against Horthy. Infuriated, Horthy ordered for the arrest of Charles's side on the train, before finishing the meeting by ordering their execution, including Charles. All those who followed the pretender were gathered outside the train, with Horthy being their literal, actual executioner, reminding everyone on how Horthy was determined to launch the white terror years ago. For every minute, one soul met its end, with their last words ironically voicing their regrets on fighting for Charles. With Charles's life being spared for the last, Horthy eventually aims his gun towards Charles's back, as Charles screamed something that might haunt Horthy forever.

"Meine blood..im der Hand ... soll Europa in holle..und bringen Sie derjenige, der Ihre eigene Kreation Zeuge sein wird ..."

Thinking that Charles was bluffing, believing that his blood will pave the path for a greater Hungary, and a better tomorrow, Horthy shot the pretender, before he ordered that any known legitimists on the nation to be arrested, and some of them, sent into their death(2).

Budapest, Kingdom of Hungary, 3 November 1920

With the little entente backing down due to Charles's death, with the world now thrown into hell, as nations began to rip itself apart, Horthy felt that this very moment, and time, were his chance to fix things once, and for all. Calling the citizens of Hungary to gather on the palace, Horthy stepped out from his bedroom, with those who saw him began to kneel on front of his presence. Unlike what happened in the past, Horthy does not wearing anything that show him as a royal figure, with his medals and badges being something that shows his status as something above the people of Hungary. In this very day, history will be changed, and shaken. Some have said that the first world war is where all the kings die, and some have said that the age of kings are over. Knowing very well that this decision were something he could not reverse, Horthy, whom already prepared for the worst, walked out towards the balcony, as now, everything that the world have known for years have changed.

The Kingdom of Hungary is no more.
Only the Empire of Hungary now lies.

And a emperor now rises over Europe, fueled by vengeance.

Yes, i'm starting a TL again, and this time, i'll guarantee that it will never die. Plus..yeah...enjoy.

(POD).Because-lets face it. We never saw a head of state murdering someone on the field-in this era, right?
(1).Emperor Miklos I of Hungary, with his full regnal title being Az Isten akarata, Magyarország apostoli királya, császár a magyar nép, I. Miklós Magyarország (By the Will of God, Apostolic King of Hungary, Emperor of The Magyar People, Miklos I of Hungary)
(2).Known as the Rend.Sz.13819 (Order No.13819), whom later sent over 40 of individuals known to be supporters of Charles into their death. There were no known actual arrest, with the word of "Arrest" actually being unexistent on the document.
(3).Restoration day.

If you're unsure about anything regarding Hungary, feel free to PM me with any questions. If nothing else, then to avoid cheesy Google-translations.;)

Really, honestly. Google translates sucks, big time. Try finding a chunk of text in a foreign language, Google translate it into 'English', and see how comprehensible it is.

I find that with Spanish (a language I don't read), the untranslated Spanish is as easy to read as the Google translated version, often. (Pretend it's bastard French, ...)

Machine translation is HARD. It's not really Google's fault.

Alright, the updates WILL BE not on a chronological order, but instead, i'm going to do things regarding what happened on a year, from different perspectives.

Thank you.

A Modern Napoleon: An Essay On Miklos I's Reforms On Hungary

Miklos-horthy--outlawsdiary02tormuoft.png

Perhaps, one of the modern world's most questionable mystery, on how a Napoleonic scenario were nearly redone in a much, different terms and fashion, when Miklos Horthy de Nagybanya, formerly a famous Hungarian war hero, serving on the Austrian-Hungarian Royal Navy during the first great war, decided that repeating what Napoleon did during his era-might be his best bet to save the dying, beaten nation. Although later interviews and exercepts from various memoirs ironically reveals that it was not nationalism that fueled Horthy forward, with "Sense of responsibility towards the people of Hungary" being the only thing that drove him forward, inevitably making Hungary as one of the big dogs of Europe. Regardless of such facts, Horthy's right wing-nationalist-bent policies and rhetorics have made him being remembered as one of the defining figures of the 20th century. Horthy's capability on turning Hungary, a nation formerly being subjects to various, much-bigger forces and entities, into just as strong as those forces whom controlled Hungary in the past, is what possibly defines Horthy's rule the most. And by this, these are the reforms that Horthy have put in order to "save" Hungary, from what Horthy himself called to be from "unseen forces" that he believed have plagued Hungary eversince the Habsburgs ruled over the land.

Governmental Form
Bethlen_Istv%C3%A1n-001.jpg

Itsvan Bethlen, the empire's first prime minister

After witnessing the actual incompetence and malarky that a full-blown constitutional monarchy could bring in the form of the Dual Monarchy-and even the British Empire, Horthy, whom is trying to avoid absolutism at its very best, decided to form his own style of a constitutional monarchy. Giving himself the power to dismiss and elect any prime minister by his own will, and the power to enact or shot down any decree and law-also by his own will, Horthy's aim to create a controlled constitution are carried over by appointing Istvan Bethlen, one of the white government's hero during the Hungarian civil war. However, instead of making the parliament into something that is fully his creation, Horthy's next move is solely to merge any, known right-wing parties into Bethlen's newly formed "Hungarian Unity Party", which Horthy also accompanies by outlawing any extreme-far-right and left-aligned parties on Hungary(1). Quickly launching a election, just like what Horthy expected, the Unity Party's victory quickly creates a pseudo-monopoly where Bethlen's position are secured, for the time being.

Foreign Affairs
horty-big.jpg

Horthy, during a parade

Pursuing a directionless-foreign affairs platform, Horthy's first main goals is none other than restoring the old Hungarian borders-with a twist. Horthy's actual goal is only to unite any lands with Magyar-majority, unlike what other nationalist-bent leaders have planned for their countries. Not aligned to any bloc or nation, instead, Horthy aimed to be just as strong as those nations(2), with his personal agenda becoming the imperial army's main doctrine. However, believing that "creating a boogeyman figure" are a somewhat important thing for him, Horthy's first move is none other than demonizing the Austrians and Italians, instead of the Little Entente, which this very move somewhat shocks others. However, also at these very moments, Horthy is known to be contacting various individuals, with his move on claiming the Austrian throne starts from this very point(3).

Despite of this, Horthy knew very well that a war against the Little Entente is inevitable, and his only viable move is none other than grab everything that Austria could gave him, due to his belief that Austria being the first part of his plan.

(1).Knowing Horthy being Horthy, you know. Its basically being executed/exiled.
(2).AKA wanting to be the big dogs.
(3).Y..eah...you all have been warned.

Millitary
4yt5mzc.jpg

13th "Király emberei" Gardistakat division, famous for their ferocity during the Third Balkan War(1), and later, on the first World War(2).

Knowing very well that a conflict are looming over Hungary, with Hungary not being able to reach the optimal, prime condition for a war situation until 1936(3), Bethlen's first move, other than enacting a conscription program, is establishing "Gardistakat(4)" millitias, with every city on Hungary approximately having four of five companies, with each companies having less than a hundred men, armed with state-issued weapons, or even personal-weapons, as their way to defend the nation. However, Miklos I has made it clear, that these men will only act as garrisons, although future events might saw Miklos I's statement invalid. With no actual industrial capability to arm the nation, the Empire looks for a other direction, as they began to stress themselves over training, and morale, with the national doctrine of "Bosszu(5)" being Miklos I's justification for his will-be claim over Austria-with the truth being Hungary's eyes looming over Austria's industry. With regular wargames being conducted day by day, the state's decision to secure funds from Austria(6), whom later caused great debts for the nation, might bring the light for the army, as Miklos I does not hope for anything, but only a millitary build up. The nation itself also starts to distance themselves with the great powers, with the army slowly taking no influence at all from the Russians, the Germans, or even the British army, although slight influences from those nations were seen later. The airforce would not see any changes or improvement, not until the Twin Crowns Unfication(7), while Miklos I also commissioned the formation of the "Nembizhatete", which will pave the way for a future, Hungarian navy.

Politics
c1901bti87214.jpg

Miklos I and Bethlen, with few other statesmen, during the new year dinner in the Imperial Palace on 31th December 1920.

Immidiately instituting open elections, Bethlen took the advantage from Miklos I's action on merging/dissolving the parties of the state by also restricting the electoral census, with the move itself being supported and passed by Miklos I. Many parties does not make the cut, with "the purge" itself suspected to be Miklos I's "Coup" against the parliament, as later historians saw it to be his way to establish a dominance over the government.

(1).Eeeeeeeyuup.
(2).ITTL, the second world war are commonly referred as either the second great war, or the first world war, due to its scale.
(3).According to TTL's imperial advisors and experts.
(4).Guardsmen.
(5).Revenge, a national doctrine that Horthy created as a way to incite nationalism and patriotism-and hatred against the Germans and the Austrians, while also promoting the idea of "domination" over the Balkan region
(6).With a grand, twist of irony in the future which Austria does not think clearly over..
(7).The very irony itself waiting.
(8).The "Nemzeti Bizottság Hadsereg tengerészeti tevékenységet", or the "National Committee For Army Seafaring Activities", which will pave the way for the Imperial Hungarian Navy in the future.

Alright.

I know, school sucks.

But relax, this TL WOULD NOT DIE.

You see, there will be this big update that will signal this TL's ressurection.

Well, good luck, TTR. As someone with an interest in the interwar period of central Europe, including that of Hungary, I'll be looking at this from time to time.
