The Window: A Collaborative ATL

May 27, 1963: Pope John XXIII dies in the Vatican due to complications caused by stomach cancer.
August 11, 1964: Pope John XXIV calls for the armed defense of the Holy Land, citing anti-Semitism, and attacks against the Holy Land, placing the Kennedy Administration at a major crossroads,...

Who is Pope John XXIV? Why is he Anti-Semitism? Why would a catholic leader cite anti-Semitic remarks 18 years after World War II?

Pope John XXIII was seen as a liberal, so I doubt his "conservative" successor would name himself after him. It would be handy to see you won the alternative Papal conclave, 1963 and why Giovanni Battista Montini, Archbishop of Milan, doesn't become Pope Paul VI?

June 10, 1967: President John F. Kennedy announces his support for the State of Israel, ending the Six Day War, during the Middle Eastern conflict

Why does Kennedy wait 3 years to openly support Israel? Would the "Six Day War" still happen in this TL?

December 2, 1964: Following the victory of Prime Minister Alec Douglas-Home, ideas of Scotland's "Unionist Party" and the Conservative Party officially merging have been dismissed. While some English conservatives are disappointed by this, some speculate that this will help Scottish Unionists in the long run due to remaining an separate, regional party.

A)Actually he is condemning the anti-Semitism that was part of many of the Arab Nationalist movements of the 1950s/1960s, citing the Israelis as "the Chosen People"
B) I thought it would help a little continuity, but if the name is questionable, it can easily changed to Pope Pius XIV...
C) Because in 1967, remember that the country is still trying to deal with a Roman Catholic U.S. President, and doesn't want to be seen as being beholden to the policies of the Pope. Second, jumping in too quickly would be seen at the time as being too close to "Jewish interests".

There is definitely an interesting set of circumstances surrounding things like "the Eshkol Letter" which would be great to explore.

I'll have a draft up for what's been posted soon enough. It will be a bit of a pain to parse through and I have applications on my plate but I should have it up **plus some new surprise twists** by weekend.

How are the updates and twist going Mako-Chancellor? Need any assistance?

January 22, 1969: The world is in shock, when a deserter from the Soviet Army, Viktor Ilyin, fired shots at a motorcade*carrying Leonid Brezhnev, Soviet leader through Moscow. A post mortem showed that although, Brezhnev, had been hit in the chest, this wasn't the cause of death. The cause of death, was due to shots killed his driver, leading to the car losing control, flipping over and sending the car into a ball of flame.

January 23, 1969: Following the untimely death of Leonid Brezhnev, Chairman of the Presidium, Nikolai Podgorny, quickly wormed his way into the spot light to become the new Soviet leader.

General Juan Almeida Bosque, is appointed General Secretary of the Communist Party. Famous in Cuba as the Commander of the Revolution and as a Major during the Bay of Pigs Invasion in April 1961, Almeida commanded large parts of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) of Cuba.

Many feared that he would begin a military regiem, how ever he appointed fellow miliary general, José Ramón Fernández, as commander of the FAR.

What's strange is that I was actually going to add this event but was waiting for evening to kind of put the finishing touches. The only bits I'm unsure of are the cities but only because I don't want to get too far ahead in the ATL. Apologies for the delay, I'll have the finished 'first draft' up later tonight.

Thank you for the kind offer! I could actually use some help with another thread, we can discuss the details on it and this one through PM if you're up for that. I've been unusually busy the last few days.
