In 1858 the Plombières Accords were signed between France and the Kingdom of Sardinia,peved that if Sardinia was attacked by Austria, France would intervene,it would annex the French-speaking regions of Nice and Savoy from the Kingdom of Sardinia,there would then be a new arrangement of Italy:The Sardinians would annex Lombardy-Venetia becoming the kingdom of upper Italy,a kingdom of central Italy and one of southern Italy would be created under French orbit,the Pope would be left with the city of Rome. IOTL the agreements did not 100% come true because Napoleon III signed a separate agreement with Austria before conquering Venetia. What happens if Napoleon III is much more stubborn and decides to pursue his plan?The war ends in 1860,the only dufference with the original plan is that the south is not ruled by a relative of Napoleon III but remains with the Bourbons.The Italian Confederation is founded (with the south as well),the Pope is at the head. In 1866 the Kingdom of upper Italy allies with Prussia in a war against Austria and annexes South Tyrol and Venezia Giulia.In 1870 the Prussia-upper Italy alliance declares war on France and the rest of the Italian Confederation;upper Italy wins the main battles against the center but loses those against France.
