The War That Never Was Map-Opinions?

What is your opinion on this map I made for an AH I'm working on? It's an ASB AH taking place in the 30's-40's where the Austrian Empire won the Austro-Prussian War.

I plan to make some sort of timeline or maybe even a story, but key points include:

-Trotsky takes control of the Soviet Union, which was formed later after a delayed Russian Revolution(no WWI to shake up things in Russia). Ever the Internationalist, he is in direct opposition to the rise of fascism in the Greater Austrian Empire(which includes Germany and Poland) and has been working towards spreading the people's revolution outside of the Soviet Union

-Adolf Hitler becomes a famous, world renowned artist.

-Benito Mussolini, along with such individuals as Oswald Mosely, become synonymous with fascism. Italy is gripped by fascism, and the ideology has spread throughout the Greater Austrian Empire and other parts of Europe

-Spain united with France.

-Ireland failed to gain its independence

-Many Empires/or states that collapsed still exist. The Second Mexican Empire, Empire of Brazil, and the Peru-Bolivian Confederation

-A Union of central American countries backed by the US was formed when Mexico attempted to expand into that region.

-the US is led by President Joseph Taylor Robinsion

-The Empire of China, formed in 1915, still exists and thus all of China(save Manchuria) is united.

-Italy won theItalo-Ethiopian War(no second war), giving it control of Ethiopia

-The Ottoman Empire still exists

-the Swedish Empire won the Great Northern War. Norway and the east European Baltic region are firmly under it's control.

What contry controls south Papua New Guinea?

Oh, and did you perhaps get the title from a HOI MOD? Or just a coincidence? :p

Who controls the German colonies in Africa and half of Venezuela? (yellowish).

What about Burma, Laos and Malaya?

It sort of looks like a German empire timeline, except you have no Germany.

And things like the Congress of Berlin would presumably turn out significantly different if the European balance is different.

And if you're going to go back and change things in the 1860s, you need to look over all the territorial changes that occured thereafter, because presumably some would end-up differently.

Apart from sub-saharan Africa, there's Tunisia, Libya, there's a S. America, Cuba, Philippines, New Guinea, Balkans, etc. Some might not occur. Some might have different boundaries. Some results might be paradoxical.

For example, it's possible Austria being stronger, means that Italy is focused more on the Austrian border, etc., which means Tunisia turns out different (one reason French moved in was to preclude Italians, if more or different Italian emigration to Tunisia, this could be different). And that then produces a different result in Libya, and so on.

I'd start with a map of the world in 1860, and work out from there with your timeline what happens.

well, actually, TWTNW is a mod that I'm a part of.(Really, check out the forum at http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?500210-Continue-The-War-That-Never-Was-mod-here) :)

Thought so, I invented the name of the MOD so I thought it sounded similar. :p

I'll include a color key later, but does the world map have any glaring inaccuracies in it that I should take note of?

Burma, Brunei and Malaysia should be British - Unless the later two are Dutch?

- If austria ITTL is so powerful it controls entire Germany, how could it loose Transylvania and Voivodina?

- I can't see how Sweden could conquer baltic states. They were pretty docile in XIX century.

The map isn't really finished-better go work on borders

If you have any suggestions about division of territory, please tell me.

Also, part of the reason the borders are wrong in some regions is because I had trouble making the added borders(took awhile in GIMP) so I I left some parts mostly alone.

Give me a break, Labrador/New Foundland was hell to make in GIMP.(ITS NOT WANK)

Oh, and sorry if I'm not a MAJOR in History, so forgive my EGREGIOUS mistakes in borders, boundaries, etc.

Please, don't take any of the comments too hard, they are trying to critique your idea, to help you make it better. Believe me, the comments in this thread are actually quite polite compared to some things I've seen on this board.

I apologize for the "Labrador Wank" comment. It was meant to be humorous. I was assuming that you had meant the borders to be that way, and that you knew what you were doing (and if you did, I really did like the idea). But, I also wanted to draw your attention to it politely in case it was an unintentional mistake. Perhaps I could have found a better way to do this.

Finally, if I may offer a suggestion (if I may not, ignore the rest of this message): instead of Gimp, use Inkscape. Maps are much easier to draw using vector-based graphics than raster. If anything, it's far easier to adjust borders if you need to make a change: rather then get a headache squinting to get the eraser tool to catch all of the rogue pixels, you just need to grab a couple of handles and drag them into place. When you get to having to adjust a label, I believe you'll be much happier in Inkscape.
