From Wikipedia: The name "Quebec", which comes from an Iroquoian word meaning "Where the river narrows", originally referred to the area around Quebec City where the Saint Lawrence River narrows to a cliff-lined gap. Early variations in the spelling of the name included Québecq (Levasseur, 1601) and Kébec (Lescarbot 1609).[10].
The name could just as easily have been applied to a different region bordering on a river, or on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
The British hold onto *all* of OTL Canada, and are less successful in New England. The French get lucky and their colonies along the eastern seaboard are successful.
When the British colonists revolt against the Crown, they establish a new nation...in OTL Canada. Since it's still in North America, they might call it "The United States of America"; or they might call it "The United States of Canada."
Meanwhile, Quebec might remain under the domination of the French crown, or the Quebecois rebel and establish the Dominion of Quebec...?
Is this all too silly? How many different PODs would be necessary for this?
