The United States As A Member Of The British Commonwealth Of Nations?

The British commonwealth really began as an institution around 1887, though informally, with meetings of the various colonial leaders. Today it even contains 2 nations that were never in the British Empire - Mozambique and Rwanda. The Republic Of Ireland was one of the few to leave and of course it contains hugely significant nations suc as the UK, Canada, Australia, India, Nigeria, Kenya, New Zealnd and South Africa. If the United States had joined how would it change it and the world politically, economically and sportingly with the Commonwealth games being one of the most significant multi-national sporting tournaments! BTW it's periodically suggested Ireland (REP) should rejoin and I would not be adverse to that!

For a start, the Americans are extremely Republican. They don't want anythind to do with the British Monarchy politically.

The British won't have an economically greater nation in there with them. It's just a slight political embarresment on their part. The British didn't want the Americans in the Commonwealth period.
