The Ukraine and Belarus remain free from Soviet hands

What events in 20th century would prevent the Red army from controlling its two most western neighbors before 1935?

Well, a stalemate with the Whites could provide similar results; obviously the whites themselves wouldnt be pleased to abandon most of Russia to the Communists, but if it became clear they had no other options; they would.

Possible POD: greater Entente support to the Whites, with the understanding that the West's goal is to protect Europe and not reconquer all of Imperial Russia.

Another POD, alot more obvious, is that Brest-Litvosk remains in effect in the East (Either through a CP victory, or a White Peace in the West/We keep the East kind of scenario). Its doubtful that the nascent USSR would even dare challenge a victory Germany for the territories they were just forced to hand over to them; at best they could retain the Caucasus, but Belarus and Ukraine would be firmly into Berlin's backyard.

I agree if the White were able to hold their own in these two areas against the reds or if the Poles were able to take a bigger hand with western aid it might have been possible that both place would remain free from the soviets.

wouldnt Ukranian independence movements, both leftist and nationalistic, have to play a big part in this?
they did fight for indipendence, against the whites in OTL, and the reds, and the germans, and each other, or at least thats how i got it, i might be wrong

the hetmanate was allyed, from time to time, with this and that side do.... i think

I think that the whole point is that the right wing faction wins the struggle and gains enough outside support to ensure that they remain independent after 1922.

Poland becomes asbish strong and beat the crap out of the bolsheviks. Belarus and Ukraine become Polish puppets.
Nope, part of Polish territory. After all, Poland owned whole Belarus and lion's share of Ukraine pre-1795. So, they'll just grab as much as they can. Bot Polish government supporting Inependent Belarus strikes me as something much more ASBish than Lenin building libertarian society along the lines of Ayn Rand teaching or Hitler turning Philosemitic.

There were a lot of Polish generals who tried to create a Commonwealth of nations under Polish control. Pilsudski himself had supported that idea, it doesn't mean that Poland won't annex land. The western parts of what's today Belarus and Ukraine was annexed by Poland IRL, and I guess the Poles would have wanted a Black Sea port, but the Intermarum project proposed a Commonwealth where Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic States were nominally independent, but really controlled from Poland.
