I am sure that there have been many TLs where the UK does not enter the Great War; either because Germany does not invade Belgium or for other, TL-specific reasons.
But I cannot find them.
So I would like to ask you for links to such threads. It does not matter if the Central powers win in the end or if Russia/France/Serbia triumph, just that the UK, the other Dominions and presumably the US do not take part in the fighting.
Thanks!
Britain staying out of the war requires a whole different German strategy. Perhaps simply discovering that Russia could and was mobilising dramatically faster then the OTL plan allowed. The idea of invading France and knocking it out of the war before turning on Russia assumed Russia would not be able to attack for longer than crippling France would take. That turned out not to be true.
Britain wavered over going in, the idea that they had to was not accepted by politicians there. That British generals had talked to French generals as if it was bound to happen was met with the comment "Generals can say whatever they want, they do not make policy!"
So, German intelligence gets intelligent and releases a new intelligence estimate that Russia will be attacking into East Prussia in a matter of weeks instead of months. The General Staff/Kaiser realise that needs to be dealt with first, and only send enough forces west to stop Plan 17, the French invasion of the short common French/German border area.
The British Empire stays out of the war, saving a generation in Britain, Australia, New Zealand etc from being massacred. Since the best and most idealistic volunteered early their still being alive after 1918 will change the culture and achievements of a substantial part of the world.
France will probably have lower losses, since their is less of a trench line to carpet with corpses. Still high, but the quote 'The best men of France died childless on the fields of Flanders' will not be quite as true. France will be better post-war in many ways.
Germany, well CAN they knock Russia out of the war early? Sounds unlikely but if so then the Tsar might last a little longer, and Russian history will be a bit less tragic. Germany itself, what happens there will depend on the details of the rest, Austria/Hungary too.
